'The support that you have been provided with is to be discontinued ... You should note that there is no right to appeal against this decision ... You must now leave the United Kingdom.' This is one of thousands of letters sent out to Zimbabweans seeking refuge in the UK, including to members of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change.

Letters obtained by The Observer newspaper show that the Home Office continues to order failed Zimbabwean asylum seekers to return home in the face of mounting violence, to face possible torture or death in their home country - or to starve here.

  • This is absolutely terrible....has the world lost all decency and understanding? As humanity's growing apathy toward itself continues our species is bringing itself closer to a thanatos.

  • Amazing how a country can be so indifferent.

  • This is terrible, the government are being extremely two faced on this issue. One minute Brown is one of the strongest voices of condemnation on the situation and the next he is sending people right back into it.

I think that housing refugees from the crisis is one of the few positive things we can do to help out the people of Zimbabwe. I hope we see the Home Office back down on this issue.

  • umm well it seems after the queen took her knighthoodback from the leader and other acts of weirdness also now they takeing it out on the population

you see mugabe has obviously refused to supply uk and others with any resources any more so he is no longer of any use to the powers that be he woke up basiclly still an asshole but he woke up like sadam hussien also and asshole but both leaders have something in common they both were co operating with the west untill a day they decided otherwise then automaticlly they are regime leaders and bad and blah blah

the only ones who suffer are the people the west has a policy to make unfair sanctions which affect only the pople hopeing that the result will be chaos and upriseing so that the problem can solve itself they are hoping that the people will take out there own leader what they know and not telling people is that mugabe and the army dont suffer at all just the people and the people dont have any means to take out mugabe

while all this is going on one day someone might snipe mugabe and they will say it was his own army then what you got ? army coup blah blah same old story question is who supplied the sniper rifle? lol in reality the west dont give a crap about the situation at all they just want co operation fo rthe resources and whoever is willing to govern that counry and co operate will do just fine they might as well put posters in the wanted section " wanted someoen to take control , will recive full support from the west and all atrocites you commit will be overlooked and lied about in cnn .... untill u stop being of use or your resources run out

    wake up !!

  • You said that after Hussein and Mugabe stopped cooperating with the west then "automaticlly they are regime leaders".

I don't suppose it had anything to do with murdering their own people then?

  • It certainly is strange that the British were so keen to be chummy with Mugabe not so long ago, much like the US was best friends with Saddam.

Politics is the art of saying one thing, and doing another. Our politicians can be seen to be doing the right thing by condemning the Mugabe regime, but on the other hand they're more than happy to send people back to the very country whose violence they condemn.

  • If you want to learn more about the history of "illegal" immigration and refugees in the United States, I suggest you read "They Take Our Jobs" by Aviva Chomsky. I know this case takes place in the UK, but a lot of the information is still pertinent.

  • This is phenomenal. The British colonized Zimbabwe for a hundred years! They didnt recognize it's independence until 1980 and Robert Mugabe was Zimbabwe's first internationally recognized leader. He has been in power ever since, and now he is a murderous dictator who rules with an iron fist. Maybe England is sending people back as a snide act of revenge. It's no shocker that colonizers see the colonized as lesser humans.

Politics is actually the refined practice of the art of opportunism.

  • May be the comment for Great Britain to go "hang themselves a thousand times",reached the wrong ears, or right ears, depending upon your viewpoint. You would think that out of 11,000 someone would step and administer "justice".

  • Sounds like the leaders of the United Kingdon are united in one thing....united in not helping people in need.

  • Government cannot solve other people business. If there is such thing, then the people should rise and make the Regime Fall. They should have not Voted at all or fake voted. Sorry, it is the bad and ugly reality.
I'm sure once there is enough people and something done against Zimbabwe, other Countries can help with the Military. 20 Years ago people wanted the UK out and let them run their Government, now, they want to go back... WTF?

  • Great Britian is under attack by the Muslin already in Britain. The Muslins are creating a Civil War in Britian. The British citizens are not going to add warriors to the Muslin side.

The British are guilty of trying to preserve the society, and national idenity.

If the Muslin can not conform to British Society, then go back from wence they came.

  • Aren't Zimbabweans the most unhappy citizens in the world? That's fucked up.

  • It was only in 1994 that the UK gave Mugabe a knighthood (now they plan to take it off him) so they can hardly wash their hands of the situation. How can the UK outrightly condemn the government sponsored violence in Zimbabwe and then send defenseless people back to it? As long as the rest of the world does little more than issue statements of protest, they are complicit in his regime of terror.

  • and...how is this going to help out the refugees?

  • All decisions should be suspended untill the Mugabe regime topelled.

  • I understand the influx of refugees is overwhelming. But the UK needs to sit down and figure this out, this isn't an ordinary immigration case.

Brown has stated his stance on the issue, he needs to get his peers in line with him. This isn't the time to split partisan lines.

  • At the same time, their Foreign Minister is giving some serious lip service to forcing international condemnation upon Zimbabwe. Kinda unimpressive and inhumane. Good politics I guess.
