Experts say China’s wind energy could grow 1667% by 2020

This would definately boost international veiws of china.

If they manage to replace their fossil fuel energy plants with renewable efficient energy plants, and beat the West to it, then i think china will find itself a leading power.

They have to get out of Darfur first to look credible on this.

That's a big percentage. Maybe I'll visit China in 2020.... just maybe.

China has one clear advantage (you have to squint to see it that way though) and that's the government has such a grip on the public as a whole they might as well enlist them to build pyramids while they're at it.

China will be absolutely credible if they do this, and start implementing other environmentally friendly polices.

Regardless of how you feel about China, It has realized that it cannot rely solely on oil as its energy source. Other countries like Iran ,Israel and Brazil have cars already on the road that use alternative energy sources to fuel there cars. And whats worse is that most of these cars are made by none other than GM. and yet none of these cars are available in the larger us markets. So bash China all you want but they are ahead of the curve it terms of energy security while we are still contemplating on how to drill for oil that won't be available for at least 8 years.

China desperately needs clean, renewable energy sources otherwise they will cover their country in a thick cloud of noxious pollution. The northeast industrial zone of the country has already been blanketed by smog.

Good thing it isn't 1337%, or we would be in trouble...

Bravo China! Being energy self supporting will allow you to reduce your dependence on oil in Sudan or elsewhere.

As you succeed in the nuts and bolts of wind-power, you can teach the rest of the world.

And maybe the USA can catch-up. And we can reduce our dependence on oil in the Middle East or elsewhere.

Maybe they'll be able to sell us the energy they produce. It'll be just one more thing available to U.S. consumers that is 'made in china'.

China needs to invest in renewable source of energy. They are consuming more energy and the demand is not going to slow down. How about those small wind turbine energy for the chinese household? I here Hong Kong is doing it the the high rise apartments.

In 2007, only 4 of those 6 GW were connected to the grid. China needs to catch up in grid connections and technology capacity.

It is amazing to ponder that China, whose goal is only 30GW for 2020, could possibly reach 100GW.

Keep in mind that reports like these, however, are merely better bartering chips for China, going into 2012, for China to say "We're doing our part, we're not signing on to mandatory emission reductions."

As many wind turbines are going up, there are just as many coal fired power plants, and just as many dams in earthquake-potential zones.

On the one hand, its nice to see a leading power , other than the UK and US, waking up to see whats happening in the world.
on the other hand, its all well and good saying that this can be acheaved, but in all reality would it ?
