- Noone will end this war (1)
Senator Barack Obama held his ground, and said "For me to say that I'm going to refine my policies I don't think in any way is inconsistent with prior statements and doesn't change my strategic view that this war has to end and that I'm going to end it as president,"
He criticized the media for blowing his comments out of proportion. Obama stated"I was a little puzzled by the frenzy that I set off with what I thought was a pretty innocuous statement,.
He finalized his commitment to ending the Iraq war by saying "I am absolutely committed to ending the war. I will call my joint chiefs of staff in and give them a new assignment and that is to end the war."

But when will he end the war? if he chooses to keep true to that statement he could leave it untill the very last year in power to do so.
[edit] Im not condeming this candidate but just poining out that he can chose not to do as he says, and since im not american and won't/can't get involved in the voting process i dont follow their campains. good luck with your next presidant, your going to need a good one to get your country on it's feet again.-

And that is why obama is not qualified to be president!!!
All he is doing is pander to the radical far-left wingers ...without going to, or even been to Iraq, or even consulting with Gen.David petraeus the man in charge on the ground in Iraq.
If obama were to pull the troops out, all the terrorist will move back into Afgan. and Iraq! And then we will have to go right back over there again, any person with half a brain can deduce that...after all its happened before in other wars.
I say we do it right the first time!!! and put the man that was right about it all along in office.

Once again, most of the news outlets pounced before getting more details. When watched and listened to carefully, it becomes apparent that they feed off of each other, which explains why they use the same jargon at almost the same time. Senator Obama barely had time to breathe before the "borrowed" opinions started flying.
-
Ha, here we go...
-
The terrorists were never in Iraq. We should be focusing on Afghanistan and better security within our own borders.

I am honestly up in the air as of right now between both candidates. I can't help but wonder what would happen if we had (for the first time in our nations history) an anti-war president in the middle of a war? an immediate pull-out would be totally crazy, it's like we can't see past "war is bad" and think about the real moral issue of leaving the Iraqi people to clean up our mess. someone wrote "The terrorists were never in Iraq" well if that was true before we entered Iraq, it sure as hell isn't true now. I am not for war myself, but I am not for allowing our country to act in such a way that would leave Iraq in a worse situation than when we started. We can't just say "we made a mistake, sorry...hope you all do okay but well, public opinion shows we don't really care anymore" it just doesn't work that way.
-
One side of my brain tells me that we should stay because we must finish what we have started. But what exactly did we start? And for what reasons? The fact that no one really knows is a terrifying one.
I have begun to think that as a country we are in no position to be "assisting" {Once again, whose to say that that's the real reason we started the war} another country right now, and that we should work on increasing unity and building up our borders.-

As much as we all want the Iraq War to end, it's just not likely with the current government institution. The American government will call the war "over," but Iraqis will still be under United States occupation.
Obama is saying that he'll end the Iraq War, but is it even possible to do that with a single term? Ending the War would be bringing ever single troop home and then giving the Iraqis the right to self-determination. Is he really going to do that in four years? In eight?-

On June 6th, Obama attended the Bilderberger mansion WITH Hilary Clinton.
From now on, in order for him to win the Presidency, he's going to have to start satisfying those who really make the rules.
Double edged sword is that he either plays that old Washington game he's made it clear he hates or the criminal clown McCain and his Stepford spouse will be living in the white house.-

Nader has a great exit strategy laid out
-
Obama wants to end the war.
McCain does not.
What a hard choice come November huh?
Obama will hopefully blow McCain out in November -
At this point in the election, given the choices that have been all but foisted on us, it seems to be a vote between the idea of ending the war and the idea of continuing the war.
No one, Obama or McCain or Clinton or the Ranger from the Yogi Bear cartoons will be able to walk into office and press some magic button, ending the occupation and calling all the troops home. What we need is someone who is at the very least committed to ending our occupation rather than someone who is perfectly willing to 'stay the course'.
So here's a question for those who somehow believe the one half of their brain is perfectly capable of comprehending the complexities of war and foreign policy: Where is the money going to come from to continue our occupation of these countries? "Anyone with half a brain" can "deduce" that our economy is a wreck, our people are suffering both overseas AND at home and after several years of war, WE STILL HAVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED WHAT WAS SET OUT AS THE GOAL IN THE FIRST PLACE?
How many presidents do you think it will take, honestly, to find Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice for 9/11? That's the reason we started this entire mess. We've invested our economy, our reputation throughout the world and most importantly the lives of our friends and families. When exactly is it that we get a return on such a significant investment?
We need to realize at some point that our families and our country are more important than a quest for revenge and justice gone horribly wrong. We need to cut our losses and focus on rebuilding our country before we can be strong enough to handle future threats.
Wasting money we don't have to continue to try and hold two countries that don't want us there in the first place is not the answer.-

You guys, the Republicans' only hope is to cause enough fragmentation among democrats to match the crumbling Republican base. That is the only way McCain has a chance of getting more votes than Obama. And this would only happen if good people like you guys on Current.com fall prey to media manipulation, such as labelling him "just another typical politician."
The mainstream media has to sell newspapers and they have to grab eyeballs -- so any way they can exploit this fragmentation works for them.
Do not be fooled.
Case in point: the LA Times reporting a quote from the Repub National Committee spokesman Alex Conant that just even begins with: "Obama's Iraq problem..." No, Iraq is not "Obama's Problem" -- it is a problem started by the Bush Administration which would be prolonged - not solved - by the McCain camp.
Obama intends to get us out of Iraq. McCain does not.
Callling him a "typical politician" is the only way they can refute the man's intelligence? Iraq is a disaster Bush got us into and can't get us out of. Obama has declared he will get us out. McCain has not.
Forget the smears and the petty wrangling over phrases -- that's designed to sell papers and TV shows, not create a sustainable world.-

Looks like it's time for us to leave Iraq we didn't get our oil sharing agreement, the one where the Iraqis give Big Oil no bid contract for thirty years giving up 75% of their oil profits. They have told the world that they are open for BIDS on their oil. Sucks to be us. Now can we fold our tents and get out of there? How about we go back to Afghanistan and finish the real job of routing out the terrorists and bin Laudin, then bring our troops home?

Then how would we be able to peddle in all those drugs
-
Once again instead of answering a question, he blames the media for asking him it. The junior Senator's arrogance holds no bounds!
-
Obama has no military experience. He claims he can end this war with his nice words... but in truth, he will have to work harder than that to end this war.
Unlike many people, his pretty words do not convince me he can end this war. Then again, McCain has not convinced me either... WHY DOES THIS ELECTION HAVE THE SUCK-IEST CANDIDATES?!?!?!?!?!? -
he needs to call it what it is an "occupation" and not a war. For a war you need two armies not one army and civilians.........Iam sorry they are "insurgents" funny how powerful labels are. Does everyone here know that the Defense dept. was once the War dept. They sure changed that label quick.
-
What is Obama going to end now that our soldiers are winning peace without his support ?
Is he going to cut the cake ? -
An quick withdraw from Iraq would be disastorus. Obama needs to clearify his answers next time instead of walking around the question like he did with this issue.
-
The Iraqi peopl have taken to the streets and demonstrated asking that we leave. Do any of you believe in democracy? It's their country. They want us out. What is the problem?

let's make this easy. both are awful choices. one is just a better orator then the other.
Obama lies because he's voted for war to be funded and for the foreign policy to stay the same.
pulling out immediately would be the best thing that could happen. There has never been a time when we pulled out of a country that they came back to attack us. In fact, the opposite has happened. Things would be a lot better if we stoppped terrorizing other countries.-

Rockstar, you gave me the biggest laugh of the weekend. Pulling out immediately from Iraq would be the worst choice a President could make. It would be one of the worst choices in the history of our nation. ALL OF THE MEN AND WOMEN that have fought and DIED for this war would have given their lives for nothing, NOT A DAMN thing if we just pull up stake and leave.
And Rockstar, are you really that dumb? You're saying that Obama has lied, because he supports our troops? Because he voted for funding for the men and women over there? Get your head out of your rear end or where ever you have it stuck. I mean, seriously. If you don't support the war, FINE....but at least support the troops. These are our brothers, sisters, friends, family, neighbors. Support them.
Do we need to leave, yes. Does it have to be right now, NO! Does it NEED to be right now, NO! We went over there, people need to get it in to their head, we're there, we started this mess. We hit the bee hive and knocked it to the ground. We need to understand that it is our responsibility to pick up the mess. Leaving would be the opposite. That's like throwing a bee hive on to the playground of a nursery, and expecting the 2 year olds to deal with it.
Come on, we're better than that.
And for all of you idiots out there that sit there and complain about John McCain making the comment about staying in Iraq for another 100 years, come on, look at what the man said. IF WE NEED TO, he's prepared to have our troops be there until the job is done. THAT is what he meant. Not that he wants to continue fighting the war for another century. He wants us there if the job requires us to be there.
I was a big Obama supporter in the beginning. I still believe that the man has the potential to do some amazing things. But I don't know if he is quite ready to handle this nation, under the circumstances that Bush is going to leave it.
And what is Nader's wonderful exit strategy?-

I love seeing the Obama groupies defending their Messiah now. Hillary was against giving our tax dollars to faith based initiatives, she was against immunity to FISA laws, she was for gun control, she was going to get the troops out of Iraq. And you fools are either too ashamed or too brainwashed to admit you were wrong. Good work lemmings.
-
Psh Clinton would have changed too. She isn't ready to compromise her righteous right.
as for Obama....I too can say I'll pull the troops out of Iraq and it has just as much meaning as his claim. -
First of all, to those who think its a bad idea to leave Iraq, most of you think that if we leave the terrorists will come back and as one of you said with an analogy of a 'bee hive' and leaving it in a nursery of 2 year olds. Thats just beyond ignorant, speaking about a country that had no terrorism before we went it, last I check it was a-stan! Now of course the Iraq people want Americans out. Hell they never wanted us there in the first place. People who talk about 'bringing freedom' to Iraq really don't get that all we've done is destroyed they're homeland, displaced their people and ruin so many lives to the point that they're going back the unsafe warzones because they have NO WHERE ELSE TO GO. Freedom, what kinda of freedom is that? And when people say 'oh we got in the war for 9/11, we're looking for Osama', then why the hell are we looking for Osama Bin Ladin, who was supposed to be in Afghanistan, in effing Iraq. Then it was about Saddam, and then it was about WMDs and then the war was 'magical' over, and all the other BS.
I mean reality check people. We need to leave, end of story, stop worrying about other countries that don't want us, and start worrying about ourselves. Hell maybe even the real countries that want our help like the ones devastated by natural disasters, and that aren't sitting on oil. We need to stop killing our youth, to stop trying to finish what we started, because we can't, we effed up with Bush as our idiot of a leader and he messed it up real good. So yes we need to cut our loses and focus on how to support ourselves as a country b/c we are in NO WAY capable of helping anyone right now. When we've ended poverty then we can start thinking about other people, we we have fixed the education system, that people aren't starving, and people aren't choosing between food or medications that could save their life. Screw the war, fix us, because there isn't a way to win the war, to do it right the first time', its not a war its an occupation that is, was, and always will be wrong in every reason. Ask the millions of displaced refugees that don't have a home to live in, have lost all or most of their loved ones. Ask the refugee children that will grow up hating us for what we have done to their lives. If you can bother looking into their eyes... what kind of freedom is that. I'm with someone who will end the war and possibly give some of the dignity back to those people and our people. Now those people who aren't already enlisted and what us to stay the occupation in Iraq please do enlist so maybe you could sacrifice your life for those troops who want out. Thats a good trade off, let those who want out come back and let those who want to stay, stay. Simple as that. -
Vietnam and Iraq are not similar in any way exept what the death toll might be. The actual terrorists fight a much style than the vietcong and for much different reasons. If we pull out right away they will regroup and sooner or later we will have a bigger problem on our hands. I'm not for the war and never was, but now that commander cookoo bananas (fucking asshole devil) has got us there it isn't morally right to do what we usually do. Kill lots of people, destroy what we can, spend our money and credibility and leave. That is directed at rock star numbnuts not splintered chaos. You are right, I was sooo for Obama (actually clinton) but is he ready to pick up the pieces of what Bush has done. It's a nastier mess than his father left for Clinton. Does it matter? Let's say Obama fixes it, what Super Devil will follow him and do it over again?

People, people! We must save our energy! Our messiah only has so many miracles he can perform before November. We need to stop wasting our breath and conserve our energy to fight them when the time comes. In the meantime, pray that the locusts and that have plagued our government will change the minds of the others so that we can all be set free!! I dont need the promised land, but I sure as well could use some manna.
-
captain beefheart, there's no reason to believe they would regroup and come attack us. When we left Lebanon, they terrorism on the US virtually stopped. we need to get out now and there's no consequence.
