McCain does not pump his own gas so what does he say about the price of gas:

McCAIN: Oh, I don’t remember. Now there’s Secret Service protection. But I’ve done it for many, many years. I don’t recall and frankly, I don’t see how it matters. I’ve had hundreds and hundreds of town hall meetings, many as short a time ago as yesterday. I communicate with the people and they communicate with me very effectively.

  • it doesn't matter?
    is he serious?
    it doesn't matter that you don't know what your constituents are paying for oil?
    seriously?
    how many times can this man put his foot in his mouth
    thegirl
  • He doesn't see how it matters?! Well I guess he hasn't been listening the American people, just like Bush.

  • Its hard to believe anyone would be surprised at this story.More of the same (old,out of touch politics)simply begets more of the same,period.I have respect for Mcain for his service to the country,but no matter which individual in the republican party runs (or,god forbid,wins)in this contest its still the same party and will continue its archaic policies.Our country simply cant stand any more.

  • What's the Secret Service got to do with it?

    Even as a Senator when was the last time he actually touched a gas pump?

    The only positive thing I can say about McCain is that he isn't Bush.

  • And nickwe3d, that isnt much of an upgrade. I'm so annoyed. He doesnt see how it matters? It's supposed to be a government of the people by the people for the people....and gas prices matter to the people.
    nkeg87
  • how typical.......it "doesn't matter" ?!?!?!
    how can anyone trust a man who is not in touch with the plight of the American people?

  • I am appalled at this.

    I don't know what to say, living the meager lifestyle that I do, gas prices dictate my every move.

    I just want to add this link; it is a good conversation on why we need to listen to more than just the two candidates running for president. Please....

  • Does it shock you he said this? It's the same thing he said when asked about when he plans to bring the troops home "That's not really important" This guy is a typical ahole.

  • Here's for all you LIBERAL Democrats WHO HAVE BEEN IN POWER IN THE SENATE for Over 2 Years since Mid-term elections !!!

    In Just one year - - -

    This comes in three parts:

    Part 1

    In just one year. Remember the election in 2006? Thought you might like to read the following:

    A little over one year ago:
    1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
    2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
    3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

    Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:
    1) Consumer confidence plummet;
    2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;
    3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);
    4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);
    5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
    6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

    America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!
    Remember, it's Congress that makes law not the President.
    He has to work with what's handed to him.

    Part 2:

    Taxes...Whether a Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.

    www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html < http://www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html...

    Taxes under Clinton Taxes under Bush 2008
    Single making 30K - tax $8,400 Single making 30K - tax $4,500
    Single making 50K - tax $14,000 Single making 50K - tax $12,500
    Single making 75K - tax $23,250 Single making 75K - tax $18,750
    Married making 60K - tax $16,800 Married making 60K- tax $9,000
    Married making 75K - tax $21,000 Married making 75K - tax $18,750
    Married making 125K - tax $38,750 Married making 125K - tax $31,250

    Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates
    It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above
    think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest
    President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say they
    will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that
    fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is
    like the movie, The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of
    some money and they don't even know what happened.

  • Isn't that illegal for him not to know?
    I think its unpatriotic to be a LEADER here and NOT know the price of gas.
    RonTayan
  • McCain is so old he probably has a steam engine car!
    CTZNWES
  • If it doesn't matter then he can start paying to fill my gas tank!
    Thomas_Morse
  • I would think that someone who is on the road as much as McCain is now would know the price of gas, him not knowing this rather large detail just contributes to an image of someone who is overall not observant or in touch with reality. He probably also doesn't believe in global warming..... oh
    RudyRudell
  • So much for voting in his favor based on his stance on gas prices. He doesn't "see how it matters", see. Another reason not to vote McCain.
    marpunk
  • "In a recent interview with Martin Wisckol of the Orange County Register, McCain was asked when the last time he pumped his own gas and how much did it cost?"

    McCain did not know how much gas cost when he last pumped his own car. It has probably been a while. He was not asked how much is gas today?

    I am not a supporter of McCain, but we should criticize his policies, not whether he can remember what gas cost in 2006.
    uroborus8
  • i bet mccain doesnt even know he is running for president
    johnmcstupid
  • Reminds me of Cheney's answer, when reminded that a majority of Americans want us out of Iraq... 'So??"
    shelchak
  • This is really a stupid non-story. McCain didn't say that the price of gas doesn't matter. What he said was that it doesn't matter that he doesn't pump his own gas. He didn't even answer the question about the price. Whether he knows it or doesn't know it isn't revealed in his answer at all. Ask Obama the same question. Do you think he's pumping gas?
