Following their much-anticipated (?) appearance on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio One show, Bloc Party have unleashed a new track and this Planet of the Apes-inspired video.

"Mercury" will be released as a single August, 11. According to Billboard, it is not sure whether the track will be included in Bloc Party's third album.

So, in the end the countdown [ http://current.com/items/89077904_bloc_party_start_mystery_countdown_on_their_website ] brought us something new, didn't it?

hmmm.... not sure about this yet.

I really like their 2 albums so far, and the couple of early pre-1st album singles that didn't make it onto the album. But didn't like Flux, thought it was a weak track and feel this might just be the same. I tend to think they're a band that do their own thing, but these last 2 singles seem to be just moving toward the crap that is 'indie-electro' or 'indie-dance'. Fair enough use keyboards, samples, cut-up/glitching and other techy electro elements in the music, but they seem to me to be just doing what a LOT of other so called 'indie-electro' bands are doing now, which i find boring.... shame.

To conclude though... this song is nowhere near as bad for that as Flux was and I think it might grow on me, whereas Flux never did.
