Billionaires are gouging your grandparents

Just how is buyout billionaire Bruce Wasserstein gouging our country's elderly? Let's connect the dots: Wasserstein is the CEO of Lazard and has made billions by buying companies, cutting costs, and turning quick profits. Lazard owns and manages Atria Senior Living—the third largest assisted-living provider in the U.S.—as a private equity investment. Atria has been mismanaging its facilities left and right, making medication mistakes, wrongly locking in residents, and even failing to call emergency services.

Watch the video & sign the petition: http://warongreed.org/lazard.php

What is Atria's response? The company slapped residents on a fixed income with steep rent increases to as much as $8,500 per month. What's more, Atria pays its staff a measly average of $8-10 an hour with unaffordable healthcare, while Wasserstein made $41 million in 2007 alone. That's right, Wasserstein is getting rich off our nation's grandmas and grandpas, a gross injustice that we have exposed in our newest video, Bruce Wasserstein: Gouging Grandma.

I strongly recommend you spend 6 minutes watching this video BEFORE you make a response to my comment:

This is what's wrong with capitalism: putting profits and stock value over the welfare of human beings.

Is public shame enough to rein in these private equity investors? Me sending an email to billionaire Bruce Wasserstein?

Should government regulators step in and do something? Can they? Or should the directors of Lazard somehow arrive at a change of heart on their own?

Even if we can't get back what Bruce has taken, we can do everything in our collective power to stop future "Wassersteins" from doing this to our parents and, later, us.
    Worth signing for that alone.

I think people in America are looking back at times when things were simpler....when greed was not as rampant.....when families got together and enjoyed each others company....before the one eyed monster invaded their living room....well there was a great thing about that time.....sons and daughters took the time to Love and care for their parents....the same Love and care that they had received when they were helpless and at the mercy of the world....yes...Bruce Wasserstein is probably worthless....but please show your Loved ones the respect they deserve....also a bad thing happened when families quit taking care of their dead and turned them over to strange strangers....that is a whole different story....maybe for the future......Golden Ruler.....if I had parents I would never turn my back on them.........Richard.......

No wonder nursing homes have such a bad image this guy is a monster. I doubt the government (or at least the executive branch) would actually do anything considering Lazard board members have contributed to every major political candidate for some time now. Go to http://mapper.nndb.com/start/ and search Bruce Wasserstein and then open the Lazard file.

Wow, that's pretty busted. I hope they listen and don't continue to deny responsibility.

I'm SO DAMN SICK OF GREED OVER CARE.
    DISGUSTING.

This is totally dispicable of what this company has done. There are so many senior centers opening here in our state I can't keep up with all of them. Some of them make you sign over all your assets to them in order to become a resident.

This has got to be stopped through local legislation. We cannot allow this kind of care to be a "for profit" enterprise, it must be limited to be a "non profit" enterprise. That is the only way that care can be guaranteed to be fair and more compassionate.

I can't believe that people would vote this story down. They must not care about seniors at all, heartless people.

I also believe that we should go back to the day when parents were not disposable....there is such a disposable mentality in the world today.....if any of you think you would have made it without a tremendous amount of hands on care...assisted living.....you are delusional....after looking at some of the green and red voting going on.....the percentage of delusional people at Current is large......if you have to put people in places.....please apply the Golden Rule......would you want to be there.....and remember that some of those wonderful people you meet that work there are just poorly paid actors....it changes the second you drive off......there should be some places built like the old Missions....rooms surrounding a central building for meetings....etc....next to each room....a storage place for mementos that mean so much to you and you alone.....and lots of gardens to work and watch..... and oh yeah......lots of jacuzzi's......Golden Ruler......Will............................

Government of the people would naturally respond to the criminality of these people. We don't have a government of the people, we have a moral-less government in the likeness of the Busheney gang.

Change out the Ripusoffican's, including mcLame and we'll have a better America.

There has got to be a line between Capatalism and Greed and misuse of the system. Capatlism is failing as it is plain to see. The Corporations have taken advantage of people at every corner. There has to be some kind of regulation. The system is basically good when used properly, but this system is being abused by Bushies buddies in big oil as well as the corporations and Bushie himself. There must be something done to protect people from these thieves, especially the elderly and children.

Capitalism is ok when you want to get cheap iPods (they aren't THAT cheap), but I belive that in situations such as this, regulation is a must.

It is sad to contemplate that these institutions exist to fill a void in our society! Bruce is a monster created by us. Our failure as a Society to respect and care for our parents has opened the door for creatures like him!

It's going to get worse as the baby boomers retire and need 24 hour healthcare. More deaths and killing in the name of need and greed. It's sad! The younger people don't see like I didn't that they too will need care one day. Maybe the good in humanity will increase.
