Rep. McHenry has totally lost his mind and lost sight of "the big picture."
I want to stamp his head with a big stamp that says IGNORANT.

Wow! What an idiot! Biking is great exercise and if anyone needs it its americans. Bike programs have been very successful in europe and their a great way to reduce consumption of energy - exactly what we need to solve the energy crisis. What this fool and his party seem to think is that is we need to be using MORE finite and toxic sources like nuclear and coal instead of cleaning up with renewables and stop wasting energy. Switching our addiction to a different drug does not solve the problem. Although this does make sense... the coal companies that surely fund this asshole don't want us to stop using energy - that means less money.
-
While this guy does sound like a major league idiot he does say one thing that makes sense: There is no need to spend taxpayer money on a "bike riding" promotional campaign. That said, the country could certainly benefit from bike riding in more ways than just reducing energy use. Namely, shrinking those American spare tires and fattening the wallets a bit.

sounds biased to me....

stamp his head with a hammer
-
not only will it reduce or dependence on oil, it will help or growing health problem
-
Funny, I didn't hear what his idea for reducing our dependence on oil was. I guess I vote for bikes!

I'm going to ride my bike in honor of this jack ass today.
-
Oh my god! One million a year! That'll put us in a recession for decades to come! That's more than the billions they spend on war!
-
It is not like it is the Democrats only solution. I agree with CTZNWES, one million dollars a year is not that much. I am glad that there isn't a response speaking out for this Republican. It may be nice to hear some more reasoning of his though, even though right now it sounds ridiculous.

-
Roll over, Jon Stewart!

My mind just exploded.

you guys are idiots. People cant ride their bikes 50 miles away. Most places in america its dangerous to ride your bike anywhere other than a park. We dont live in Italy where you can ride your bike through the town to get to your olive tree. A million dollars a year to premote bikes. Turn on Cartoon Network they premote bike riding all day.
"Im gonna go ride my bike"
lol have fun please dont wear a helmet -
Most places in America clayjj05? Most places in America aren't big cities with sprawling suburbs, give us a break.
I use the car much less. I instead walk as much as possible. I can say I have saved myself easily $50.00 a week in gas and probably a whole bunch more figuring the current cost of gas.
Me plus one tenth of one percent of the population doing this is a real BIG hurt to the oil companies - trust me - not to mention a significant reduction in emissions and demand for gas.
What are they afraid of? They are playing the single mind of the Busheney gang. Ripusoffican's are not capable of thinking for themselves as the last 7 plus years attest.-

And to think Americans actually voted to put assholes like this in congress. The stupidity of some of these elected officials never ceasers to amaze me.
-
One shift in thinking needs to be: Should I really be working 2 hours drive from where I live?
-
the guy in the video attacked only part of the proposed energy bill. true it is very inconvenient and inefficient to ride a bike in areas that are 50+ miles but the biking idea was meant for places that biking is actually practical. the bill is actually 16 billion dollars in total and it includes publicly traded power companies getting at least 15 percent of their supplies from renewable sources by 2020. The proposal offers utilities credit against the mandate for cutting energy use by as much as 4 percent. It exempts government-owned utilities. etc. here is a link of part of the energy bill.

Thank you riverdeer. Clayj is the true moron for involving himself in the issues of politics to the point that he doesn't have his own mind anymore to realize that this doesn't mean the complete abolishing of automobiles, but for people to use bikes whenever its possible to do so. So that way we free up some traffic and drive down gas prices ( hopefully but probably not) and reduce dependency on our government for everything in life. I'm all for bikes and have been for years. I fill my tank once every two to three weeks and pay about 50$ a month on insurance. I haven't gotten a parking ticket or moving violation since 1998 because I'm barely using a car for other than going to vegas and spending my untaxable drug money! lol
-
The dems are clearly funded by Big Bicycle.
-
LOL WHAT. This guy is... wow, I don't even know.
-
Hah, it's kind of funny this video came up on current, as I'm just getting physically to the point where I can ride my bike the 20 odd mile round trip to work and back.
Take that McHenry!!! -
I want him to get stuck in a critical mass session! HAHAHA what a douchebag!
-
haha, good one Phatdrew... seriously, i've never wanted to hurt an elected official as bad when listening to this douche! W/ smart town center development connected by good transit, everybody could bike and commute to work w/o using a car... and 1 million a year? if that angers somebody as an exorbitant amount of public money then they would have to be a moron, probably responsible for electing this guy, "a million dollars, gee wizzz!!!!" That seems completely insufficient for any kind of bicycle advocacy even on a city sized level.

Republicans don't like bikes cause they can't get super rich from it...
If they could tax us, or personally sell us the bikes, they might go for it ... -
obviously he sounds like a law school teachers pet reject who is trying to kiss a big gutted old dude's ass, to move on up.
all politicians are schmoozers in one way or the other. Im sure he went to have a phat steak in his phat escalade with his phat erectile problem afterwards.
-
I give him that, he did get under my skin. -
Ha, whoa. Of all the things the get worked up about, he uses his time on the floor to combat the evil menace of... bicycles. Did I just type bicycles? This is what going crazy must feel like...
-
The herd needs to separate itself from the sick. And this guy is sick( or just stupid )!

how exactly does riding a bike solve everything? so, we're supposed to ship stuff across country via bicycle?
-
simplify is the answer.
bikes are an equation, and although I love bikes and cycling to death, there are a million factors that also could contribute, ie. power and electricity reduction, eating less steaks and more plants, and buying unnecesary things like tons of plastic, I mean there's many, many things. The times are convenient (I mean look at us having a good argument here) for our multiple uses and it goes so fast, we forget to stop and relax.
-
improper balance could hurt us all. commercialized cars/trucks ok. trips to 7-11 a few blocks away twenty times a week in a vehicle, not so cool or healthy. -
Wow.....
This just reinforces my thought that all representatives should be "voluntarily obligated" to use mass transportation or ride a bike during their term.
Lead by example.
Imagine the country's transportation infrastructure if this were the case.....
If anyone knows his email address, I'd like to send him a photo of a bike.
Every day...
Forever.....
Ride on! -
People cant go 50+ miles? Huh?
What do you ride a huffy? Do you really think bikes go at most 10 miles an hour? Ive ridden a 62 mile ride to my work for Denver's Bike to work day. It did take up 4 hours of my day, but I could do it, Im not a professional biker. Id also like to mention I smoke a pack to a pack and a half a day.
And only safe place to ride your bike is in a park? What? I probably havent ridden my bike in a park for 3 years. Denver's metro rush hour traffic is safer to ride through than the park. With other inexperienced bikers riding in the parks, old people waking who couldnt hear "on your left" even if you had a megaphone. Kids running around people with strollers. Just ridiculous. Clayj is a moron. And so is that damn republican.-
