Russia will use "military methods" over US-Czech missile shield

Russia's foreign ministry has said it will be forced to react with military means if the US and Czech Republic go ahead with plans for a missile shield.

It said Russia would respond "not with diplomatic, but with military-technical methods" if the system was deployed.

The statement comes hours after the US signed an initial deal to base part of Washington's controversial missile defence system in the Czech Republic.

Moscow says siting the system near its borders could weaken its own defenses. It has previously threatened to aim its own missiles at any eventual base in Poland or the Czech Republic.

The deal, signed by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Prague on Tuesday, allows a tracking radar base to be set up on Czech territory. The Pentagon says the shield is designed to counter a threat from the Middle East, not Russia.

  • Putin and Company have drawn a line in the sand.
Let's see if GWB cares enough to not step over it.

  • i don't know why our gov't is so intent on blowing our enemies up when it's so much more effective just to bankrupt them.
  • Cuban missile Crises in reverse. Oh how those who do hate what they've done when others do the same thing in return.

  • Except that we had moved missles into Turkey before they even thought to put them into Cuba, a spot from which every major city in Russia could have been hit by a nuclear missile. By the wy, the Cuban missle crisis was provoked by the Bay Of Pigs incident. Where's your rationalization now?

Not that it matters at all because you are saying that it's ok for the U.S. to act like the Soviet Union did back in the 60's.

It's ok J_Jammer, sometimes your country does stupid things and it doesn't make you or anyone else in this country a bad person. Nor does it make the nation bad or its government bad. You don't have to rationalize every shitty action the U.S. takes as if it affects our "righteousness." Sometimes we do things that are stupid and wrong and that's the end of the discussion.

  • So you think someone shouldn't be punished for past wrongs in the future?

You should remember that when you want to dictate who should be punished for wrongs in America.

I don't care that Russia is having issue with someone doing something similar to what they've done. You can tell me that it's wrong to do it but it doesn't matter. Because if someone nuked America and America got pissy because of it, I'd say the exact same thing.

You pay, as we all do, for your father's sins no matter no matter if you did them or not. Just like you pay for his unpaid taxes. Governments pay for their past sins no matter if they were part of the government then or not.

It's not about fair, because, as we know, this world isn't based on fair and just. It's a matter of what is and what isn't. And what Russia is-is someone that is just as big a bully as America is. They are no better than who they complain about. The amount of sorry or sympathy I have for them is nil.

The same for what I feel if America if they received similar treatment for past wrongs.

You (the government in this case) reap what you sow and whether or not you sowed them, if you are there to reap, you get what you got.

I understand what you're stating, but it's not reality, it's justices and this world isn't remotely based on that line of thinking.

  • I live in Prague and 70% of the people here hate the Radar and don't want it. While I think the Radar is "just a Radar" and is actually a security system that could be good for Europe, it looks like "following Americas" words is just enough to discourage Czech's to OK the radar.

I do believe this is not at all pointed to Russia but the Middle East. Russia thinks it's so important that even think thae Missile system is against them... How Egocentric... :-)

Anyway, there should be a referendum and then the Czech Citizens will vote off the Radar.

  • ONCE AGAIN, the arrogant, wrong, delusional, drunk, and disgusting the Russian government is, NOT MINDING THEIR OWN BUSINESS.

They still think they "control" the puppet states, oh how wrong.

Russia is NOT part of this equation, and should mind their business.

Like a little bitch who wants attention!
  • I don't blame Russia and commend them on thier response to agression by Bushies and the Pentagon. the Pentagon must be cut in half soon or they will bewaging war in space as well as all over the world. These people know no other way of life but to kill. Somehow they must be stopped Eisenhower was right when he said the Pentagon would get out of control. It is happening now. Stop the pentagon and thier war machine which is all part of the far right lunatic fringe republicans with a guilt complex.

  • Interesting. Why build a defense grid on the ground when you could simply send a laser cannon satellite into space? Not kidding, a laser would be a very effective way to shoot down missiles. They already do it in atmosphere (look up THEL) and it would be doubly effective in space. Solar power or a small nuclear reactor could power it.
  • you couldn't launch a bottle rocket from one without russia knowing exactly when you lit the fuse . they pose no threat to russia . russia has subs roaming the seas which can respond in terms of nano-seconds to any US aggression ( and vice versa ) .

  • ANYONE who takes Putin lightly does so at his own peril. If you don't think Putin still runs Russia you are severely disillusioned. He completed the most successful bloodless coup in history, the government is a puppet to him. He has his own nukes, he has his own oil, he is as cold-blooded a person as is walking the planet, and he is not scared. He wants to rule the world.

  • Like the Cuban Missile Crisis you say?
Are the Soviets and Uncle Sam still at war?

  • Apparently, Russian war fighting doctrine includes a "limited" nuclear first strike? It sure would be interesting to see the first, say, 30 targets on the war plans at the top of the deck...

  • here's Patton on Russians :
" i have no particular desire to understand them except to ascertain how much lead or iron it takes to kill them .
in addition to his other amiable characteristics , the russian has no respect for human life and they are all out sons-of-bitches , barbarians and chronic drunks ."
it's just a great quote , coming from an american whom could have eliminated the present BS before it ever began - immediately following germany's surrender in ww2 - had the political machine at the time given him the go ahead .
i love Russians - but Putin's politics make me wish Patton had had his way .
for any other ww2 history buff who might recall some of Patton's predictions , he foresaw that germany , and the areas bordering russia ,would be used as a buffer zone against a soviet state during a cold war which he knew would follow ww2 - and when Putin threatens military intervention in this present situation , he has Patton in mind , subconsciously or not . Patton was right .

  • Guys sorry but russian has some words to say!

You all US think you can put your shit everywhere and get outraged when people tell you no!

Easy to say they are a bunch of drunk or hostile pricks but what would you say if Russia was mounting some missiles in Mexico?

stop thinking the world belongs to you!
    thanks

  • I don't know, I think we ALL need to get the fuck out of each others faces. What do we need a missile defense system in someone else's country for anyway? You'd think we'd figure this out sooner or later, but noooo, everyone subscribes to ridiculous religions that tell everyone that they are the best and when the world ends god will save them, so they keep trying to blow the world up cause they think they're exempt somehow. Someone on here said something awesome the other day, "When everyone thinks god is on their side, someone is bound to be disappointed." We're all made of flesh and blood, people, every one of us.
