Read this line specifically,
..... Construct 45 New Nuclear Power Plants By 2030 With The Ultimate Goal Of Eventually Constructing 100 New Plants....
and also what he mentions about continued use of coal plants.....
He also recently stated, spending is over drawn.... I'm totally confused..... and....
I'm feeling ill........
A GreenerFuture should be on Everyone's mind!

McCain is being spoon fed info he thinks people want to hear. Cleaner burning coal plants still means coal must be mined. Hey McCain, have you ever seen how this is done. They blow the top off mountains instead of mining. Coal dust anyone? The face/topography of the Appalachians has been altered forever.
Millions of years ago these peaks were as high as Everest. I said MILLIONS! We have accomplished this same feat in much shorter time.
I think McCain still is not getting the message or listening to the PEOPLE!
Do we really have to dust off the "NO NUKES!" T-shirts?
They say nuclear releases no green house gases. Any idea what all the HOT water they release into the environment does? Check it out!-

Has he said what would be done with the waste from the 45 nuclear power plants? Has anyone asked him? I have heard about his proposal, have they let him spin away from an answer about how to transport NUCLEAR WASTE safely? We have some already available if he has an idea. Nuclear waste is a problem already. Adding to it seems a bit absurd.
I think he needs to answer to tough questions if he is allowed to make such promises. He could say anything? We need answers to the tough questions! First! -
Hua Hua! 2030? We will be dead by then. Solar plants need to start working before 2010. Figure it out, whatever you have to do.

Both he and Obama are on the same team here. Sad.

This is a VERY important consideration to ponder prior to voting.....
Also, I am very curious as to who has advised him to state this publicly... what PAC's? what entities? What major corporations will gain from this?
Remember, most presidents are just messengers for the corporations that "back them" $$$ to victory at the polls. Afterwards, there hands are tied to make their own moral decisions...
This is something I look for in a candidate...
Lastly, I wonder what Mccain will say if someone pulls the plug on the tele-prompter at his next debate. Actually that wouldn't matter, he probably also has a Earphone just in case...
I was looking for a good reason NOT to vote for him and with new information, I have made my decision...
PETARRO - you are on the right track!
brb, going to throw up some more.....
Oly Ander.... -
idiot

I do not care what has to be done, but get this message
Runs for the bathroom again... holding his solar tower idol and starts praying to the Solar Gods... -
He's basically saying,
'You can have all your cheap, environmentally friendly energy after I'm dead, but until then, I need to keep the money coming in for big oil.' -
pretty soon every american will have a nuke plant in there back yard, hip hip hooray
-
I practically *will* have nuclear plants in my backyard, as I live very close to Nevada, which the government seems to think is the perfect place to dump nuclear waste. Really intelligent place to put it, too, seeing as how it sits on a recently active fault line...

You guys are a joke.
What else are we supposed to do? You guys want to get off natural gas and Oil, but any idea other than solar and wind you dismiss. Im all for solar panels and wind, but they dont produce enough electricity to provide a town like LA or NYC with power. In Virgina they are putting up the windfarms and their electricity price has nearly doubled. -
Nuclear energy is the best short term solution to our enegy problems. The only problem with this statement is the fact that we are at the edge of war with Iran for having these same beliefs about nuclear energy. Do as I say, but don't do as I do.
-
Something must be done immediately to revive our economy from the damages of this energy crisis. I would love for everything to be environmentally sound, but there has to be compromise somewhere.
Where are we going to get relief? Off-shore drilling? No, can't have that eventhough Great Brittain has been doing it forever. One oil spill and everyone freaks out. Yes, it was bad- but something has to be done NOW. We can't keep paying $5 a gallon while waiting for some alternative to be readily available. We just can't. -
McBush is a senile old man, pay no attention to him.
-
so far as dump sites are concerned , i'd say ohio would be perfect.

Wired Magazine recently had a great cover story titled "Inconvenient Truths: Get Ready to ReThink What It Means To Be Green". All of you Nuclear nay-sayers ought to give it a read.
By proposing an expansion in Nuclear Power, what McCain is proposing will only help to end our dependence on foreign energy sources... that is a good thing right?
The French have some of the highest density of nuclear power plants in the world and their operation has been successful.
It is ridiculous to chastize a presidential candidate over his willingness to invest in alternative DOMESTIC energy production. -
Sorry UWSKIGUY, I disagree. If you do your research you will see that Nuclear power is obsolete other than to make nukes for the countries of the world. We already have enough. Now.. On to the real point here - solar towers can produce the same amount of energy a nuke reactor can.
I don't mean to sound mean or anything, you may be new to the solar discussion. We have found out that solar towers are a world wide solution, and if you look at all the 3rd world countries who wish to "come online" they need to also make use of the solar tower or solar fields technologies. The planet is full of deserts, and solar towers do NOT interfere with any animals livelihood.
The debate is over, Nuclear power is OUT, solar and alternative energies, OTHER than clean up a messy and polluting coal plant, or what ever is in place, needs to be REPLACED with solar. Period. I'm off my soap box.
until the next round.....
Oly Ander, Ca. -
McCain's just pandering to his big biz buddies. Nuke is a big boondoggle like massive military spending on over engineered unnecessary weapon systems.
-
Oly, solar towers are ridiculously expensive and are not in the near future. Nuclear has emerged as the smartest and best way to go at this point. It's the coal we need to worry about.

Question of Opinion: Which president do you think will listen to you us when we say "Hell No! to Nuclear Power"?
-
TOPSCRUFF - cool nic :)
ok, here is my beef, I live in southern calif. and we here have been against nuclear for years.
Top Reasons:
1. waste, and where to store it? Yucca Mountain.. good grief to that...
2. possibility of certain death incase earthquake, tsunami - San Onofre is on the coast here
3. Nuclear needs a water source - contamination of scarce water resources. Hoover Dam is now at 60% what it is supposed to be.
4. recently - terrorism
5. the Fact that cost of producing a plant - either Nuclear or Solar Towers is EXPENSIVE PERIOD.
6. In the long run, solar will be cheaper, and electric companies may go out of business unless they allow "on grid" production by homes and industry - ROOF TOP solar technology. They should, but they like their jobs, so they can transition to Solar jobs I would think.
7. According to oil usage - and "peak oil" scenerio, we need to start Solar NOW.
8. Global Warming - enough said. Yes humanity has contributed to global warming - cutting rain forests to pollution, etc..... hours on this point can be spent and proven easily.
9. Continued gas increases - due to the fact that the world is understanding things more and more, and the markets are showing this by major investments being put into alternative energies.
Solutions - for starters:
1. We should put as many solar towers in the deserts, unused Islands, Mountain rain shadows, where ever.
2. Put are vehicles on a little steel rails in the middle of the street where all vehicles can access electricity to move about. Kinda like a disneyland ride :)
3. Lead by example - as used to say in the military.
Research:
1. Solar Towers - if you have looked at the numerous media available on the net are a viable and sustainable resource, no waste, energy producing powerhouse that is NOW equivalent to the output in MegWatts to nuclear power:
example:
220/250 nuke megwatts
vs
solar tower 200-280 megwatts.
I could drone on for hours about this, but on my profile I have provided plenty of links to get started to see what I am talking about.
2. Do we really have a choice - yes do not vote for McCain based on this point - me personally.
What we do the rest of the world will follow. I suggest you check out the Caspian nations who are demanding the right to nuclear power - conversely what really they want is nuclear makings for bombs.
continued - maxium character 4000 reached - read next response below..... -
continued.....
I do not see what is so expensive to put up a cement tower, 32 turbines, and sheets of thin plastics, that runs 24 hours a day where wildlife, provides electricity for over 200,000 homes for example, where plant life can survive NO PROBLEM underneath thin sheet canopy. Where the towers run for 100 years 24/7. Sounds like a nuclear power plant commercial EXCEPT there is NO WASTE, NO THREAT OF DISASTER TO SURROUNDING AREAS.
To me that speaks volumes. Chernynobal? however it's spelled.
Sorry but this is just my opinion and hopefully billions of people in the near certain future. We can not keep contributing to the problem and eating up resources on a scare resource planet, Especially when the rest of the world can help other countries export electricity this way.
I understand McCain speaks for his constituency but really, we are talking about the World he will be effecting if we up up that many new facilities. What America is saying really is - We can have nuke and you can not. But if we say, We can have Solar Power, so can you. Which sounds better? Which will the World do? We need to walk the walk here - dead serious. We already have enough people on the planet eating up resources, what makes the World think they can as well?
The reality is, new markets are emerging world wide now in the race for Solar, and the next President needs to make that publicly known. Research Europe, Japan, leaders in the industrial world, they are making changes - what we are saying, those changes need to happen much sooner than what I have been reading - 30 years here, 20 years there, blah blah...
Yes putting up any power site, or taking down existing sites will be expensive, but McCain is going to put up 45 new sites - why not those be Solar Towers?
We can not wait 30 years for all of this to happen. RIGHT???
Agree of disagree, using nuclear power is obsolete in my humbled opinion, I hope I made it very clear, with all my links, and views, but I have valid concerns about this planet.
Economically speaking, YES it is expensive, but can you find out the difference? The opportunity costs? I'm sure the Rand Corporation knows.....
ok, that's all for know I have to make dinner. -
Photovoltaic technology is getting cheaper, there are companies developing photovoltaic paint. This will totally eliminate the need for expensive towers and the like, Imagine having your roof "painted solar" over a weekend and being able to reduce your consumption from the grid.
http://www.forbes.com/2004/10/21/cz_jw_1021soapbox.html
An article written in 2004 speaks to some of these advances, I'm sure they're closer to being cost effective enough for the general public soon> Continued incentives from the gov't like the tax breaks for people investing in green energy solutions (ending this year) would help more folks want to change their lifestyle or energy consumption habits. -
I totally agree that solar is a million times better and nuclear is harmful and dangerous...it's just the way we gotta go for now, really. Before we make any major investments toward solar dependency we need to have the most efficient technology to harness the energy, which is still to come. For positive action at the present time we need to start eliminating coal which requires this nuclear step. Jumping straight to solar right now would waste money because of improvements researchers will be able to make. I totally feel you though, nuclear is no good. Nuclear is just better suited for the action required right now.

The bigwigs in government should be held accountable for their actions whilst elected as a representative of the people.
Maybe then they would think more clearly about what they propose and do, compared to what the people are asking for.
Too many times governments have gone against the will of the people. It should not be £ucking allowed.
I'm just so mad at the people in control.
Scientistic folk have been banging on about fuel and the needed government investment for decades.
This whole economic slowdown is due government failure to do so (that and greedy bankers). Now we have to suffer the pain while they have 18 course meals in ten star hotels. Check this crap out http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/08/world-leaders-...
I mean seriously, they sat there and talked/laughed about a food crisis whilst eating an 18 flippin course meal. Insane! Poor judgement by all which goes to show that they are not in touch with the likes of you and I.
Those stupid idiots have clearly not invested in green energies anywhere near the amount they should have.
And so we are left with a polluted sky and sky high oil prices.
Which brings me to my next point.
THE NEXT TIME YOU ELECT A PRESIDENT, MAKE SURE THEY HAVE NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST. LIKE THEM BELONGING TO A FAMILY THAT MAKES MONEY FROM OIL!
Truly, they keep us down.
They the ruling classes.
Them with their eschelons of ranks.
Its all Eaton Boys, Skull & Cross Bones, cloak and daggar $hit.
Or maybe i've been looking at too many "conspiracy" theories.
Check this out - http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/02/60minutes/mai...
God forbid if one of us proles got into power.
For then they should surely bring about change.
Forgive me with a little artistic licence there.
What we need people, is a revolution. A peaceful one.
And for any government folk that may be reading this, why not go and advise your mate to invest in innovative technologies like this - http://www.ecogeek.org/content/view/1260/
Thanks for listening to my rant.
Please God, enlighten those fools.
Safe! -
Enlightenment is at a premium these days. People believe they can't afford it.
Besides, with knowledge/enlightenment comes responsibility, and how many people want that??? -
lots of great comments, thanks to all!!
I wish this was picked for TV though, since it would have more effect.
All the stories and links on current are great, but we need to focus a little more on the things that matter most.
Oddities are swell, but true change will only come awareness. I wish for this site to be complete green but then people would think we are all wackos... and not take this site as serious. AT that point, the site would be come an oddity rather than a true source of credible info. I noticed that a lot of what people put on here is sometimes, out dated - I know I did that once, trying to keep things current, as well as postings that are not from a good source. But really, what is a good source these days, with conspiring theories about everything you can think of, I think videos are the best way to promote something. It's, live, it's real, and can be broadcast in real time.
I guess that's all I have to say at the moment, I'm tired of throwing up, and wondering what will come election time. I will prolly head back to the bathroom if this yahoo is elected.....

Grandpa McCain needs to find a quite neighborhood and simply enjoy retirement.
Just imagine a Grandpa McCain and Grandpa Lieberman ticket. Two war mongering grandpas.
I liked McCain... a lot... until he turned politician over the last few months. oh well good things don't last forever -
McCain will say anything; his campaign is hopeless. Here's a plan John; meet with the 9/11 truth experts, stop playing dumb and demand a new investigation. Hell, you have nothing to lose and have a shot at becoming a counter-cultural hero. No? Well in any case, it would make a damn good movie-for-television...
-
has anyone followed up on this incredible news? just wondering.. thanks!
