Nanotech may cure cancer

This report demonstrates the potential for molecule-sized "cellular robots" to perform the work of rebuilding cancerous cells on a massive scale. Whereas operating on cancer cells would require a physically impossible amount of work for humans, autonomous 'smart missles', deployed in massive numbers, could do the work for us.

The idea of such technology has been around for some time, but for the first time,

"By using tumor-targeting nanoparticles filled with chemotherapy drugs, scientists kept kidney and pancreas cancers from spreading through the bodies of mice."

Conclusively halting metastasis, these microscopic agents provide tangible evidence that such technology is moving beyond the purely theoretical realm.

  • Nanomachines...

Once we perfect the technology, it's gonna be expensive as hell. Medicine and surgery already costs a lot.
  • reminiscent of many science fiction subjects on humans filled with nanomachines to work more efficiantly cant wait

  • i agree with "handshakeheartbreak".

this will make medical bills sky-rocket.

  • Cannabis cures cancer, haven't you heard?
    Enjoy_Cannabis
  • Haven't heard that exactly...but it is definitely the best medicine to cope.

  • You would think after the research is done that the costs would drop since the production and treatments with nanotech have got to be less costly than surgical techniques

They are certainly more precise and effective than medicine or surgery

  • Nanotech is the future for sure... and just wait a few decades (or centuries) when it becomes publicly available... people worrying about nano-hackers putting little malicious robots in your drink at the bar...!!!

  • xeno, you are right. Nanotech will be everywhere. If you think we're having privacy issues now, just wait until nanotech hits the air!

  • something NOT depressing on current.com!
    yay for cancer cures.

  • Nanotechnology may not be the best player in the future of medicine. only because a major negative for nanotech is that is will be limited to the present level of technology. players like biotech and genetic manipulation are light years ahead there just not approved yet . here's sneak peak . browse through the link .

  • Who wants little robots roving around in their body?
    huffamoose2k
  • I remember one episode of The Outer Limits where this dude put nanobots in his body then he got super strength and super stamina (if ya know what I mean) but then he started growing eyes in the back of his head and it got really gross as the nanobots looked at his human body and decided to "upgrade" it in really bizarre ways. Not sure where I was going with this...

  • Or used to start heart attack's in certain victims,Protest heads,or leaders...there's alway's a downside to science...only the shadow knows who the next leader will be....!

  • Once the Nano "bots" are out in the environment on their own, could they learn to evolve or reproduce?

  • Go Nanobots!

If scientists really can reduce the dosage of toxic anti-cancer drugs, it's a god send. Going through, or watching someone go through, painful cancer treatment is not pleseant, believe me!

  • That's great! No more cancer! All we now is to find a way to use it on AIDS.
  • Finally a cure for cancer [that only the rich can afford]

This would be nice for the public but you really think the corporate drug companies and the government will let this happen. If the profit margin is not there they will not let this happen Robert Malthus lives on

  • Look what people are willing to do to get their hands on new iPhones. I would hope that anything that might bring some else hope would be worth the effort and the coin!

  • wow, I love this!! I've lost a lot of family due to breast cancer, I hope this works and fast!!! :)
  • this is serious we as the new generation need to take control of this for the true benifit of the people not the pockets of the investors and the goverment that will probablly use it for some kind of control

  • The question though is this: Is this treatment for the well-to-do or all are in need no matter the income level of the person involved.

  • Awesome my friend died of cancer and I love technology.

I tip my hat to the forces that create a better world that can ease the suffering of cancer patients and a less painful approach to surgeory, and medical treatment.

Have you ever seen what a bile pump does or have been introduced to a woman who had two breats removed and on Chemo?
