Sacha Baron-Cohen of "Borat" fame, may have been responsible for a hoax played on a stadium full of Arkansas wrestling fans. Audience members thought they were going to a "cage fight" style wrestling match, but instead of wrestling, the two actors stripped each other down to their underwear and started kissing.

Audience members threw beers at the actors. Local officials were visually outraged. Everyone entering the stadium signed wavers explaining they were being filmed. There were posters throughout the stadium also announcing the cameras.

"An elaborate array of mounted and handheld video cameras caught the crowd of 1,600's reaction as the two men "went right up to the line" of the city's morality laws, Holland said. The two men stripped down to their underwear, kissed and rubbed on each other, the sergeant said."

Cohen has a film coming out next year featuring "Bruno", the gay Austrian fashion reporter created for "the Ali G Show." "Baron Cohen, in the guise of Bruno, often interviewed hapless subjects in the South."

Representatives for Cohen refused to comment on the stunt.

  • As would anyone who didn't get what they expected. But no one will complain unless the tables were turned and it was something else.

  • well im all for gay love but...well why did they think it was going to be a cage match?

it seems the one to blame would be the advertizing manager.

    ha. funny joke though.

  • What's funny is that all those fans in Arkansas had no idea WHO was fighting, they just wanted to see someone get f'd up. AKA the last people who wanted to see the actual happenings!

  • this is so funny

  • Hilarious! I'm looking forward to the movie. What is wrestling anyway but two sweaty buff dudes in their underwear performing S&M? Shoot, wrestling as is is pretty damn gay.

Cohen is a comic genius......he should have re-enacted the scene from his movie where they fight with the fisting dildo.

  • @Ricky84 - That is the most memorable Bruno moment I can remember! My jaw was on the ground in anticipation of what I knew was going to happen and when it actually happened. I remember DVRing it and showing everyone.

    Good upload!

  • fantastic! more people who prefer "blue collar brawlin'" to happy passionnate kissing should be tricked into this kinda thing!

  • Living in Memphis, TN and having been to Fort Smith, AR, I can tell you now, the audience would have been humping the chairs in front of them had it been two chicks in the ring. However, Arkansas is actually not as "redneck" as you would expect. Deliverance was filmed in GA and TN people... Plus, Arkansas is the only state in the union that could survive on its own should something happen to the country. They have every natural resource a state (independent state) needs to survive on its own.-- of course, thats just a side note.
  • i don't understand why they react so.
Aren't catch-fight lover all repressed gay?
that should have help them for their long waited coming out!
    alexandrek
  • Well it "was" a cage match...just not what was expected. However, I wonder if the audience would have reacted the same way if it were a heterosexual couple insted of two men.
  • OOOOOhhahahahaooohahahaha i can't wait for this film, its been ages since i've laughed out loud at the cinema. Brunomovie.com have now claimed responsibility officially for the stunt.

    The guy has BALLS ...
  • I would have checked the website before i went.

  • Cohen is an amazing comedian who knows how to get the reactions he wants...

He is, afterall, a Harvard Graduate, and I would expect no less...

But I do have one question: What is "gay love"? Isn't love the same universally? Hm.

  • I bet the 'fighters' were quite happy to be locked in a cage after the crowd found out they weren't gonna be watching UFC...
    mattbrawn
  • Cage fighting is pretty homo-erotic as is, they always get mounted in the end so whats wrong with a little kiss? Cant wait to see these fans freak out in the movie...
  • He needs a new publicity stunt. He did the same gay wrestling stunt for the launch of Borat DVD.

While funny, it just shows how much of an elitist asshole Cohen is. Picking on people who are basically working class and without college education is rather like intellectually bullying.

What would be more of a challenge would be fooling the educated elites into coming to an opera and instead have an actual cage match with wrestlers in opera costumes.

  • I think this was a very funny prank. The South needs to be exposed to the reality of the world somehow. Im not about pushing ones beliefs on others but when the beliefs of others include morality laws against two men kissing something needs to be done. These men did see some wrestling, tongue wrestling, and shouldn't complain. Sacha Baron Cohen is combining deeply rooted social constructions with in your face comedy that makes a lot of people uncomfortable. But as someone above noted, he is bringing light to "touchy" subjects. Way to go.

  • yo samurai dave.. how do your own farts smell?
I'm so sick of all of you self righteous people suffocating current with your toxic cloud of smug...
  • In my opinion, if you expect to see a cage fight, that's what you want to see.
If it was 2 women or 2 men or a man and a woman, I would be pissed regardless.
All this does is confirm the Southern redneck/hick stereotype. Plus $1 beer. Hell yeah!
  • So? It's not like anything really changed, they were just kissing instead of punching. :)
  • Funny... just too funny.
  • haha. the bruno movie will be way funnier than borat. i can't wait
