The EOS Rebel XS offers the quality of a digital SLR camera with the automated technology that helps novices take better photos.
Canon (NYSE: CAJ) on Tuesday introduced a digital camera with professional features for people looking to step up from their point-and-shoot models, but who would like to keep its ease-of-use features.
The EOS Rebel XS is billed as an entry-level product for people looking for a single-lens reflex camera. SLR cameras used by pros have automatic moving mirror systems that permit photographers to see exactly what will be captured by the digital imaging system. In non-SLR cameras, what's seen in the viewfinder can be significantly different from what's captured on film.
The Rebel XS includes optical image stabilizing technology that compensates for camera shake to deliver a clear image. The camera also incorporates Canon's DIGIC III image processor, a 10.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, an automatic lighting optimizer, and a wide-area auto-focus sensor.
In addition, the camera is capable of a three-frames-per-second continuous JPEG burst rate, Canon said. The number of consecutive shots of a moving object is limited only to the capacity of the camera's flash memory card.
