Programmes RIZ KHAN
Native American rights
The fight for native American rights has taken many turns over the centuries.
On Thursday’s Riz Khan we look at the battle from two very different angles.
First, a group of activists has set out on a 5,800km trek from San Francisco to Washington DC, promoting conservation, collecting rubbish, and raising awareness about their plight along the way.
The American Indian Movement founder Dennis Banks discusses the "Longest Walk" movement and what they hope to achieve.
Later in the programme we examine a Lakota tribal effort to withdraw their ancestral lands from the United States.
The leader of the "Republic of Lakotah", the controversial actor and activist Russell Means, joins us to discuss his plans for establishing an independent, matriarchal and independent nation within the United States.

Good, these poor tribes have been so beaten down over the years. It's about time someone did what was right to help them out.
I hope they get a shoe in for a better life, the life that America STOLE from them. -
Keep it up Russel.
