Former White House adviser Karl Rove defied a congressional subpoena to testify Thursday about allegations of political pressure at the Justice Department, including whether he tried to influence the prosecution of a former Democratic governor of Alabama.
Rep. Linda Sanchez, chairman of the House subcommittee that called Rove, ruled with backing from fellow Democrats on the panel that Rove's claim of immunity was invalid _ perhaps the first step toward holding him in contempt for refusing to cooperate.
Lawmakers subpoenaed Rove in May in an effort to force him to talk about whether he was involved in prosecutors' decisions to pursue cases against Democratic politicians or in the firing of federal prosecutors two years ago.
He had been scheduled to appear at a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing Thursday morning. A placard with his name sat in front of an empty chair at the witness table, with a handful of protesters sitting behind it calling for Rove to be arrested.
The House already has voted to hold two of President Bush's confidants in contempt for failing to cooperate with its inquiry into whether the administration fired federal prosecutors for political reasons.
The case, involving White House chief of staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers, is now in court. The White House maintains that its staffers' internal communications are confidential.
Former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman was convicted on corruption charges in 2006. Democrats are investigating whether Rove encouraged the Justice Department to pursue the case.

No shocker here.
As a GWB loyalist, the man who knows too much would rather be held in contempt than contribute to sinking an entire administration as well as himself. -
According to the law, Rove should be held in contempt of court.
Period. -
Of course he won't testify, he feels he is above the law.
-
Burn him.

That's exactly why they must be made accountable for their actions, since what's to stop any other memeber of the executive branch to willifully ignore the rule of law in the future?
The whole system of checks of balances has been thrown out with the constitution and shown how powerless Congress is, if they can't stand up to enforce their right to supoena witness and have them actually testify. -
Karl Rove has done a number of bad things during his reign over our country, why nly now a couple months before he leaves office is he getting a subpoena?

By his actions one would think he is hiding something now wouldn't ya?
-
The House Judiciary Committee is a joke anyway. They are like a bunch of crack pots.
Waste of time. -
GO ROVE GO, if he does show up he will just pick them apart with his superior intelligence level. The HJC is getting off lucky without having to question one of the brightest men in politics ever.
HE got W elected he's a fucking genius -
Its ultimately up to Pelosi? Taking any action against Rove must be off the table.
Wouldn't want to hold anyone in this horrible administration accountable. -
The faith I once had in our country's checks and balances is once again on the line. If he gets away with this, I think we have a moral obligation to protest and riot. And if he can say that, I can too.

I say, re-arm the Sergant at Arms of the Congress, issue a Congressional arrest warrant for that son of a bitch, go find him and lock his ass in the basement of the Capitol!! It's been done before.
-
He is what is wrong with America, put him and the rest of the Bush administration in prison for the lies and life's they have destroyed.
-
If he gets away, it just proves the inefficiency of our system! You cannot teach responsibility to anyone if you cannot prove that there are out there consequences!
-
Arrest him! Shouldn't congress arrest him? They have the power to.
-
Those fucking pussies aren't going to do anything.

This will never happen... but if the Dems were REALLY serious about having Rove testify then this is what they have to do.
(1) Find the House Sargent-At-Arms.
(2) Give him a gun and some handcuffs.
(3) Locate Karl Rove (who, if steps 1 and 2 were made public, should be on his way to someplace without extradition)
(4) Send the HSaA to arrest Rove and bring him kicking and screaming to the House to testify.
This USED to be the job of the House Sargent-At-Arms before an agreement was made with the Justice Department to do this sort of stuff. Now that the Department of Justice has refused to, the House hierarchy is obligated to arm their people.
But, like I said, this will never happen. And the reason why can be summed up with four words:
HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI
And if you Democrats want that to change, you need to recall her bony ass out of the Congress. Don't wait for November. Get the procedures started TODAY! You start with her and the rest will fall in line.
Oh, but wait, that demands direct ACTION from the electorate. Oh hell, we're screwed. -
-
String him up by his balls, set him on fire, pee on him then shoot him in the head on pay per view
-
Don't you just love how they insist there are no improprieties then refuse to talk abut them in the public record as if there were and then insist as in the new FISA law that the actions we haven't been informed of because they didn't occur must be considered imune from prosecution. So its ok to break the law as long as you only admit that you've broken it not how? What a wonderful lesson to teach to the nation from its leadership.
-
Wouldn't you love to see him cuffed and drug in by the Sargent-At-Arms? That would be a beautiful sight. Well, as beautiful as anything involving this evil person could be anyway.

Put his fat ass in jail!
-
Put the lying, killer in prison for life along with Bushi and Scheeneey along with the rest of thier cohorts in crime. The crimes these people have committed against America are unparallel in American history not to mention the deaths of over 100,000 innocent people. They are killers liars and crooks and not fit mingle with American society let alone rule it.
-
Way to go Rove! Don't bow down to the liberal hippies
-
I think Jesse Jackson expressed my views on what should be done to this man pretty well.

The current administration really believes itself to be above the law-all the same laws that apply to everybody else in the country. I certainly hope the incoming administration stops at nothing to hold everybody accountable-no matter how long it takes, how much it costs or whatever their role was-for 8 years of unconstitutional activity that didn’t go unnoticed by America & the rest of the world.
Unfortunately, the outgoing admin will leave us in such a domestic & international mess that this will be as difficult as possible-a challenge I hope the incoming admin will already be preparing for & thus extra relentless in their pursuit of ultimate & long overdue justice while restoring integrity to our Constitution & country. I can already imagine the shredders & delete keys working 24/7 until January.
Remember the exorbitant price tag & wasted time by the Republican driven fiasco on the alleged Whitewater scandal that hounded the Clintons for most of his presidency, which ultimately exonerated the Clintons? Let’s hope payback’s a bitch for the band of criminals that have been running our country into the ground for way too long & go down in history as truly the most despicable bunch of politician’s that couldn’t care less about critical affairs on the home front while seemingly overnight undoing worldwide goodwill built up over decades.-

Sure let's spend time on Rove. Don't worry about anything important like, uh, Gas prices going through the roof. No congress doesn't want to do something important like voting on drilling for oil or passing alternate energy legislation. Glad to see so many people are concerned with the past and not worried about filling up their cars tomorrow. Think about that when you can't afford to fill up your gas tank and we're sending trillions to the Saudi's. Thanks Nancy Pelosi for really keeping your eye on the ball!! This proves how right she is that most people have the attention span of a hamster!
-
Why is Karl Rove not in jail yet?
Call Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and tell them you'll support whoever runs against them if they don't impreach Bush/Cheney, Rove and crime partners now.
What a joke the present administration and congress has made of America worldwide. -
This is no suprise to me All of Bush's croonies have been getting away with Murder , Real Murder the taking of human lives. So what makes this any diffrent? Or such a stunner? When the news relays that they are in Jail then flood the airways. Look for me I'll be the one with the Party Baloons & Streamers.

Once again the Bush administration is laughing in the face of the law, the constitution and the American people.

We learn so much these days. Just 7 years ago, there were only three branches of our government (you know them). However, in just the past few years, a mystical, unchecked offshoot of the Executive Branch called, "Dick Cheney and his Vice Presidency" appeared from the bowels of hell and does not answer to a single authority. Just today, Karl Rove has revealed a, "Branch of the Former Presidential Puppeteer". This even newer branch is absolved from all responsibility, and is exempt from jurisdiction of State, Local, Federal, or International Law. Thanks for this civics lesson, Mr. Rove!

Every single government on this planet thinks they are above the law. Every single government in history thinks that as well.
This is why I have a hard time seeing what they've done as any different than anyone else.
Wrong? Most likely they have done things wrong......but stating things like they are the worst and no one like them is beyond lying. -
They are just letting the "clock of madam justice" who is blind especially when it comes to this Administration run out while getting away with every thing
