A gay rights group called Californians Against Hate plans to launch a boycott of Manchester's hotels. Organizers of the campaign, which is expected to be announced at a news conference today, say they believe it is the first time that gay rights supporters have boycotted a business whose owner seeks to ban same-sex marriage.
Leaders will urge the public to avoid the downtown hotel because they say that support for Proposition 8 amounts to unfair treatment of gays and lesbians.
In an interview earlier this year, Manchester said that he decided to donate to Proposition 8 because he had heard that schools that teach that marriage is between a man and a woman could be sued for discriminating against gays.
In addition, he said, he was motivated by his strong Catholic faith to believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.

I guess Mr. Manchester thinks throwing money at the gay community will make it "go away" *eye roll*

I'd sure like $125,000. :)

HAH! I hope it hits his pocket bigtime. What a dumb business man. I could see if he was in the crazy bible belt, but he is in california for pete's sake. People underestimate the financial significance of the GLBT community. Isn't he cutting off his nose to spite his face? A good example of how stupid bigots are.

Sounds like they are 'high' at the HYATT! Bastards! :-)

Discrimination against gays?
oh god. I agree that that's really lame. If there is a separation of religion and state so is there of sexuality with an agenda.
Notice he didn't donate money when the proposition was created but when this came to light about the schools. His grounds are fair and justified.
So is boycotting.
But suing schools for discrimination, if that's true, is totally and utterly stupid and selfish.
-
HYATT needs to step into this... they have been very supportive of the GLBT community and it is ABSURD that a property that carries the name HYATT could be allowed to do this ... and if they do not step in, then I feel the GLBT community should go to the next level!!

What a waste of 125,000 dollars. I could have used that money...

I am happy he is not all talk, but acts.
I would not follow the boycott and would still stay at the hotel.

The boycotts won't make a dent in his pocketbook. Good for him for defending marriage between a man and a woman if that's what he believes in. He has every right to spend his money where he pleases, why should that be of any surprise to gays. Gays should just find a nice bankroll of their own, instead of boycotting. Focus on your own plight, don't worry about those who don't agree with you. Spend your time matching his donation not a silly gay boycott.

This will show to Californians than if they believe that marriage is between a man and a woman, they will be threatened and attacked personaly in the future.
This has nothing to do with discrimination.
-
He's basically saying that he doesn't want their business and that is no different from posting white and colored water fountains.
Why should we support the business of these people? Because they are defending their right to their values? The KKK were defending their "values" when they burned crosses and rioted in lynch mobs.
It may not be what he is actually doing but by throwing a large sum of money at Proposition 8, it is the same bigotry he is promoting.
Saying that he came on board after hearing about the schools being sued is compleate bs. The simple solution is school teaching that families come in all
shapes and sizes and no one is discriminated against. That is what we are trying to accomplish here isn't it? No discrimination and equal rights for all?

This is great news.
It shows the true colors of radical gay terrorists.
-
Yes. This is great news. Gays have power and are united to further our agenda. We must prevail to take over the world and further our agenda. We must convert as many heteros as we can before the armageddon because then it will be too late. We must brainwash the children before they become attracted to the opposite sex, thereby decreasing births and at last the destruction of society WILL BE ACHIEVED. HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
This is logical, yes?
-
Give us your best sociopathic answer on what the gay agenda is, please?
-
yeah, soleil, we're radical gay terrorists because we're staunchly against the lies and the hate fed into society by obviously hate-driven agendas.
if you were spit on, beaten up, harassed, and worried about being killed because of your born sexual orientation, you'd be pretty defensive too when your rights are being placed on the auction block.
highest bidder, please?
