US airstrike kills 47 Afghan "wedding party guests": most of them women and children

On Sunday, an airstrike by US forces in Nangarhar province, eastern Afghanistan, killed 47 civilians, of which 39 were women and children.

Initial reports said 20 had been killed, but the head of a government investigation team later admitted that it was more than double that. The US military had also claimed that the dead were 'militants', but locals claim that the guests were "wedding party guests".

The country's president, Hamid Karzai has orgainsed a 9 strong "investigative commission" to determine the details of this tragedy.

What's more likely: that this was a group of 'militants' consisting of mostly women and children, or an innocent communial gathering? This blundering error by the US army should be subjected to the scorn and rigorous investigation that it merits.

  • the army needs to take responsibility for their actions and own up to what they have done. This is very disturbing

  • Sadly, although this is the first report of a serious civilian casualty, i'm sure this happens every day with every attack. And the soldiers (who recieved less than 2% news coverage last year) who are being sent and then Stop-Lossed are the ones being turned into muderers by our government.   • That's fucked up, there should never be an excuse for killing women and children, if there were Terrorists there why didn't they extract them with special forces?

  • This was a preventable incident...with all the technology and resources we have, something like this is unacceptable...

    Why do the innocent and poor keep suffering...In addition to those that were killed, those that survived will live a life full of physical and emotional injuries...

    All the more reason for major change at all levels...

  • You see, the U.S kill hunderds of innocent people everyday this is just one of the stories we here about... Its truely sad. American's always wonder why the world hate them and always wish death upon them and I totally don't disagree with them.... The U.S looks for it!!!
