Obama’s highly surprising and unlikely popularity (albeit moderate popularity) is born out of a frustration with the “big tent” GOP forged in the days of Ronald Reagan, and many on the right are casting a skeptical eye toward McCain. And now, with Obama making a strong push to connect with social conservatives, McCain is feeling the heat.

Come on; you guys need a president who looks like that, it'd do wonders for your street cred.
-
Obama is pandering to the right to get votes hes lying to conservatives. If anybody calling themselves a conservative votes for this guy then they weren't conservative to begin with.
-
I have to say that while I did support Barack Obama, I question that support now that he voted for Telecom Immunity.
Time for change?-

I supported Obama before the FISA vote and I still support him today. The reason is because I understand that no candidate is going to see eye to eye with me on every single issue. The election is about change and change will come with either president. The question is what kind of change will occur. Ask yourself, what is going to change with John McCain as president?
If you cant see major differences between these two candidates then you just dont understand the responsibility that comes with your right to vote. You have to look at their stance on the issues and really listen to what they say about them. Also realize that its also about another republican administration or a democratic one. Who do you think is putting their blood and sweat into electing McCain? Its the same Neoconservatives that got George W. elected twice. The same people that have gotten rich through the drug companies
and the oil companies
and the credit card companies
and the Military Industrial Complex
Please wake up my friends!
dont you realize that the republicans want you to stay at home on election day? Theres plenty of guaranteed republican voters out there ready to get another republican administration into office. What they need is the people who are angry to lose faith and keep their asses at home. -
the skeptics are right. obama does not take the "correct," or rather EXACT same position as each of us on every issue. how could he? there are things that i dont agree with that he has done or voted for. does that mean that he is all bad and i would consider voting for mcsame? thats crazy. we live in a DEMOCRACY where the president is SUPPOSED to represent the people. as much as i am a progressive i know that there are TONS of people all over the US that dont share a stict of ideas with me. obama needs to have support from everywhere, not just "wel;l educated" politic snobs. he has gotta do what he has gotta do.
i have a feeling that after he gets elected some small changes that he makes will lead to large changes in thought by the population in general. when he has the support of most americans and inspires them to hope and dream of a better time, i will be a happy camper and he will be able to implement many of the CHANGES that we all want to see.
dont count of mccain to offer anything similar to that....
skepticism is easy, action and grace are honorable.-

Why must conservatives and liberals continue to be portrayed in the national press as mortal enemies when all we really want is a better way of life for future generations?
I hold Corporate Media accountable by keeping the divisiveness alive and kicking for sensationalism's sake and a few extra ratings points.
We deserve far less "this or that" coverage than we've been getting. Where's the balance? -
"If you cant see major differences between these two candidates then you just dont understand the responsibility that comes with your right to vote. You have to look at their stance on the issues and really listen to what they say about them."

"I am proud to stand with Senator Dodd, Senator Feingold and a grassroots movement of Americans who are refusing to let President Bush put protections for special interests ahead of our security and our liberty. There is no reason why telephone companies should be given blanket immunity to cover violations of the rights of the American people - we must reaffirm that no one in this country is above the law."
The above quote was taken from the above URL. That is the official senate page for Barack Obama. This was posted in February of 2008.
His statement after voting for the FISA bill which granted blanket immunities to Telecoms:
"Given the legitimate threats we face, providing effective intelligence collection tools with appropriate safeguards is too important to delay. So I support the compromise, but do so with a firm pledge that as president, I will carefully monitor the program."

I do not support John McCain because I do not want to see this country fall apart. We have watched in silent horror as our country has degenerated into the hateful image the world sees us to be. This is because of our leadership, who has taken this country down a path that has not helped anyone but a few hated groups prosper. We are disenfranchised, afraid and hopeful. We must, before anything else, consider what we define as freedom and how best we feel that should be enacted. This requires a careful look at those we place into positions of power on our behalf.
This isn't as simple as "Well he needs to be able to support the views of as many people as possible as President".
This isn't as simple as "Well he changed his mind."
The FISA bill is granting immunity to large corporations who have happily handed over any and all communications records, allowed the Bush Administration to install 'listening posts' or monitoring stations to monitor Internet communications of not just terrorists, but political enemies, and who, now that these acts by the Bush administration were ruled *ILLEGAL* in Federal court are seeking to be immune to prosecution for aiding and abetting that crime.
This is a key facet of the Bush Administration policies ladies and gentleman. This is one of those major issues that we keep railing against, that we are looking to change.
These are the VERY SAME ISSUES that Senator Obama is claiming he is going to change. This is the 'Change we can believe in". Is this where it ends? Even if he were simply trying to portray himself as strong on the issue of national security, why do so on such a core piece of legislation? On such a key issue in this election?
Don't ever tell anyone that they don't understand their responsibility as a voter because they disagree.
You vote for the person or persons you believe are the most capable of handling the task of running our country AS A REPRESENTATIVE. Before you fall in line with the pressure of what everyone around you says is true, exercise your responsibility to take a solid look at what choices you have.
I'm not telling you to vote against Barack Obama. I'm telling you to remember that your vote is yours alone.
Make the best of it. Be aware.-

Consider that McCain isn't offering us any new ideas...what could possible be appealing about that. No matter what Obama says or does, his opposition will paint him as an undersirable, but in truth, Mccain is the most undesirable candidate that we've seen in a long time, excluding GWB, of course...
Obama knows how to think for himself and consider the many possibilities there are for solving the problems that face this nation in the here and now...we need a problem solver for our president...and I believe that Obama will surround himself with the most brilliant of the problem solvers, people with integrity, to provide strong leadership for all of the people in all of the parties, for this country in the years ahead...he is a true statesman...-

The following is excerpted from an article by BREAK THE MATRIX user theskeptic that I posted here at Current. (Compliments to pressrecord for posting the above video to the link).
"[U]nderstanding libertarianism is vital if the United States is ever to reverse the current 100-year trend away from freedom. What most Americans don’t know is that libertarianism is simply the modern political label given to the philosophy that the United States was founded upon. It is the philosophy of individual liberty. Without rediscovering what that means, the United States may soon be a glorious experiment with self governance by a free people that ultimately devolved into just one more socialist mediocrity or authoritarian nightmare...
... While most Americans still consider the United States the 'land of the free,' few probably understand that 'free' means individual liberty. Most Americans in 2008 have either never heard of individual liberty, or haven’t heard about it in so long that they have forgotten what it means. After decades of immersion in collectivist ideology, most Americans have been led to believe that freedom is 'democracy.' Most Americans are content to be told that they are free, so long as the evening news explains why the most recent decisions made about their lives are really in their best interests. They are content to derive their 'freedom' from government.
Imagine the presidential campaign of 1796 with today’s political frontrunners and today’s American psyche. John McCain is promising a generous helping of warfare, without neglecting essential welfare. Barack Obama is promising a generous helping of welfare, without neglecting essential warfare (at least on behalf of Israel). As these two titans battle for the prize, Thomas Jefferson, the Libertarian candidate, and John Adams, the Constitution Party candidate, answer the occasional question from the debate moderator in those states where they are able to get onto the ballot and into the debates at all. What might our country have become if this had been reality in 1796? What is it becoming now?
Certainly there will not be a Libertarian Party candidate elected president in 2008, nor likely in 2012 or 2016. The most successful LP candidate for president was Ed Clark in the 1980 election, with a whopping 1% of the vote. While it would be wonderful to see the Libertarian political party gain prominence and power, this is not the essential priority. What is much more important is that the American people start rediscovering libertarianism, the philosophy of individual liberty, and once again start demanding to be free. Libertarianism must again dominate the platforms of all political parties, as it once did, if the present trends toward socialism and authoritarianism are to reverse. Only when a libertarian Republican runs against a libertarian Democrat, with perhaps even a libertarian third party candidate in contention, will we have a chance to restore the freedom that fueled America’s mercurial rise to greatness. Only by restoring individual liberty will America return to prosperity, and once again become the land of the free."

Good excerpt, Hawkmang...yes, it's time for the passive masses to wake up to where our country is headed, with or without them...truth is power...propaganda, lately, is more power...we must put an end to the profuse mounds of misinformation...and get our country back on track...

Half his own party doesn't even like him, why would he think he can get conservatives to vote for him.

Obama is really pretty centrist people regardless of the fact that McCain wants to paint him as uber liberal. It's not true. I have been watching Obama since he's been around.
