Prison inmates have been taught firefighting skills and are working in great numbers to contain all of these fires that are breaking out. These low-security inmates are getting obvious confidence and joy from being given a chance to contribute positively to the community.

Great story! I really had no idea that inmates were out there fighting these fires.
-
As a past resident of Hope Ranch who lived through the Painted Cave fire several years ago, we were evacuated from Campanil Hill and this clip was an eye-opener to the methods which have since been incorporated into the fire fighting machine in California.

With over a hundred fires burning they need all the help they can get, I gather.

I was not aware that inmates were so involved in putting out the fires. Sounds like a great program. Thanks for the story.

Its nice to see someone doing a story on the "REAL" number of firemen on any given fire in the State of California. The inmate fire crews are an essential part of the firefighting force, yet they get little to no coverage. I hope that everyone out there can get a better sense of what actually goes on behind the scenes of a major incident. These are the real firemen, doing the real job, not the nice shinny pavement princesses you see on the news.

Excellent story. Produced, directed and edited very nicely. Great audio mix, too.
An "under the radar" pod worthy of airtime. -
An interesting take on a well-covered event.
-
What a wonderful program. Very inspiring video and well done.
-
I didn't know that the vast majority of people fighting the fires are inmates.
-
Inspiring story. It is great to see a program that helps prisoners have a chance to live a productive life.

What an excellent video. I had no idea prisoners were providing so much of the manpower for the fire fighting. It's great to hear that the prisoner interviewed in the documentary will have some job skills now when he gets out. The video also highlights the lack of other training programs in the prison system. Thanks.

I worked in the
California Prison system for over 20 years, and I always wondered why these guys never got the credit they deserved. You hear about all the bad going on in the prisons, but not the good. These guys do a heck of a job and should be given more credit for it.-

Very Good work.

Great story! this is a huge step in the right direction for prisoner utility, not saying that prisoners should be submitted to slave labor or anything like that, but in this example the prisoners are helping to take care of a huge problem that would otherwise be paid for with tax dollars (to the firemen). So not only is it saving money it is also giving the prisoners incredible valuable on job training, the only thing that I didn’t get answered was will the inmates have an opportunity to be firefighters when they are released?

This story needs to get major media exposure. The U.S. has more people per capita incarcerated than any other country (1 in 100 adults). Rehabilitation, not punishment is what prevents recidivism. This video tells a story that all voters need to hear.

rehab. now this is the way prisions should work. give them a purpose.

What a brilliant idea---everybody wins! Thank you, Taymar---great work.

Bravo! Finally a story that demonstrates that good programs can change the lives of the incarcerated. This must be seen by more of the public.

I never knew programs like this existed. It's great!

These kinds of inmate programs, even beyond firefighting, could be one of many much needed reforms to the prison industrial complex.

This is a great piece. I was down in Big Sur a couple of weeks ago when the fires were raging there. I also saw a prison camp of uncommon heroes there. I wonder if it was the same group of guys.
