well it doesn't matter if she knew what she was doing, it was still wrong and I really don't think she would have let all of those men have sex with her if she honestly knew what she was doing. Plus the men knew what they were doing and that it was wrong so they are still at fualt too.

Excuse me, those men knew what they were doing... Sicko's! So, so sad!

Tracy....this is a really sad story....its unfortunate what happens in this country every day...
There is no way an 11-year old could make a sensible decision about such a mature topic/action, sex...
Just because the child is physically able does not mean that she is mentally or emotionally able to engage in sex...the same goes for the boy children involved....
Now for anyone that was 16 years or older, there is a major issue here and those inidividuals should be punished...and the punishment should be so severe that this does not occur again...
If people could do the right thing, than the element of fear would not be necessary, but people that are even thinking about this sort of abuse would not engage in it if the punishment was so severe...
There are so many children around the world that are abused sexually and this takes away from their innocence and childhood and that is hard to get back once lost...it is of the greatest importance that we stop this!!!

Wow how can you be involved in a group sexual assault of an eleven year old and only get five years in prison?
-
Ranging from 13-40 years old?! This sounds vile, as all forms of rape is. I just can't imagine how this happened. Did they all collectively think, hey, how 'bout we all pull out our pathetic penises and do what we want with this girl or did they think, hey, I think she likes us, lets all do whatever we want to her! I don't get it!!
-
Some people are unfit fit for life. Lines of maturity for sex or life for that matter don't get drawn in black in white as the laws do, but there is clearly an element of minimal human compassion that is missing here and that is pure evil.
Good men try to protect women like they are their daughters, evil men do shit like this. God only knows what the girl was thinking to be in that situation in the first place.
Did I mention our society needs to start requiring licenses for people to reproduce? If people we only brought into this world under fit circumstances you, wouldn't have nearly as much of this tragic/disgusting sort of thing.
And there's my two cents.-

This is very sad..and for the males to use as their defense.."she knew what she was doing?" an 11 year old child?
-
The US has some seriously fucked up attitudes yet still claims to be a civilised country. It is staggering.
Oh jeez lets do whatever we like because the other person knows what they are doing - bollox.
Don't you guys have statutory rape laws. They need to be enforced. If there are doubt about the girls compliance then that is a separate issue and needs to be addressed by social services it is not a justification or reason for ignoring statutory rape laws and if nothing else common assault.
Under new UK rape laws it is for the defendant to prove that there was consent and consent can be withdrawn at any point. Once consent is withdrawn then a rape has occurred if the Act is continued.
Of course a large group of defendants - especially if involved in a sexual crime are going to plead consent. An eleven year old is incapable of giving consent.-

And the supreme court held the death penalty unconstitutional for these kinds fo acts on a child WHY????
There is no way that an 11 year old girl knows, understands, or is capable of consent in anyway!!!! WHere was her mama?? WHY was she alone with so many men??? WHo left her alone with them, and the neighbor should be horsewhipped LITTERALLY for say the little girl knew what she was doing!!!! NO SHE DIDN"T!! HELL SOME 17 year olds don't have a clue and there are grown damn women who don't, how the hell could a child 'know what she was doing'? 20 MEN???? MY GOD!!!!! WHAT IS WRONG these Sychophants!!! 5 years??? The little girl will be in therapy longer than that!!! Where is JUSTICE??? They should really be punished!!! 40 year old men!!! PEDOPHILES!!! 5 YEARS!! UGH!!!
Congress needs to pass a law that rewords the rights of the states to give the death penalty to child molesters, they can rape and mutilate kids and leave them wishing the rest of their lives that they were dead, in some cases it would be kinder than the life they are left to suffer!! and no death penatly!! UGH!!!
WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY???????????? IT IS NEVER THE WOMAN"S FAULT!!! AND DAMN SURE NOT A CHILDS FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The disgusting thing that the world has become sickens me, and God must weep at the sight! This is why parents have to be so careful to protect their children ALL the time!!! Can't even sleep through the night without having to get up and make sure that your child is safe now-a-days!! -
Its absolutely mortifying. I am stunned.
-
"She knew what she was doing."????
Hell, many 11 yr olds aren't even fully educated on sexual matters.
This has to be not only the worst rape/ child molestation incident I have ever heard of, but also the worst case of by-stander apathy.
The fact that there were that many men, all in the same community, bent on sexually torturing some poor kid is the stuff of nightmares.
The fact that others can stand by and say that they were actually provoked to commit such a heinous act is outright infuriating!! -
I was thinking of this story as I prepared to go to bed and I had a thought. I guess initially I didn’t think about it because in this day and age we hear about this sort of thing all the time. Yet it mind boggling to believe there could be twenty or so individuals, who could commit such an atrocious act, not only living so close to one another but interacting in such a way that this crime could be committed.
How could evil be so concentrated that it could manifest itself in this way without a public outcry? Why did I hear about this story from the internet? Is this sort of thing so commonplace that people are no longer driven out of fear and loathing to pass on the knowledge of such events? Did I forget about this story or is this the first time I heard about it? -
The fact that she knew what she was doing is completely irrelevant, and the only good that could come in reporting the neighbour's testimony is to lessen the crimes of the men involved.
The law treats her as a minor, and as such not eligible to make sexual decisions, so in the eyes of the law, she could not have known what she was doing.
As for it being the saddest story, did you come across the US military attack which killed 47 civilians in Afghanistan? -
I guess this one gets balanced out by the 4,060 year sentence that other child molester got.
-
There's another sad element to this story - the media is still calling it "assault" instead of what it is. Rape.

This is "mind blowing" The 40 year old who participated should be a candidate for "chemical castration" then prison.

This story is actually even sadder, if you can believe it. I googled and found that the girl had been sexually assaulted 5 years earler.
Her mother died of AIDS, leaving her 18-month-old daughter infected with HIV, records state.
The "secrecy and shame" issues associated with such a diagnosis are confusing and complicated for a child, prosecutors wrote in 2002, in an attempt to explain the girl's feelings at that time.
The reports note that the girl has lived with her grandmother most of her life. After the earlier sexual assault, which took place during a family visit, the girl feared she would not see her father again if she told of the abuse because the abuser lived in her father's household, records state.
"Her contradictory need to tell trusted persons and to seek protection from the accused juvenile makes sense," an assistant district attorney wrote to explain the girl's angst and stress.
She persevered with her grandmother by her side and testified against the 14-year-old boy, who was convicted of first-degree sexual assault and sentenced to one year of probation and intensive treatment. The girl's father, records state, aligned himself with the boy and did not believe his daughter. -
It's a sad affair. And NO 11 year old child or anyone of any age wants to be gang raped. I hope the rapists go to jail where they can be raped. Eye for an eye.
