More than 1.25 million people in Beijing - at times as many as 13,000 people a week - have been evicted since the city won its Olympic bid in 2001, according to the Geneva-based Center on Housing Rights and Evictions

Surely trying to improve the cities image by destroying peoples houses is going will turn out to be counter productive.

If this Olympics does nothing else, it will highlight the often unreported, or more likely unreportable dark underside to China's new friendly face that it tries to show the world.
This is clear evidence that China cares more about its international reputation than it does about its own people. -
The Chinese government wants to make sure that everything looks so neat and pretty for the foriegn visitors.
The competetors have been told to bring their own food, as the local food is full of hoemones and steroids.
Except for a small sound bite or a half paragraph in a newspaper, mainstream media is not going to tell anyone waht really happens.
At least we have Current and Link TV.
