Phone wedding: Muslim couple marry by telephone

A young Indian Muslim couple exchanged wedding vows by telephone. The groom, who lives abroad, did not have the money to return home to get married.

The 18-year-old bride had only seen the groom once, when he was home for holidays. "I have never spoken to him but now I speak to him daily," she told reporters. She is about to meet her new husband in October this year, when he comes home for the holidays.

  • This is weird. Crazy to get married in the first place (yeuch) but even crazier to marry someone over the phone, before they've even met, as it appears. Couldn't they have waited until October?
