Genetically modified soy was not tested properly by Monsanto as to allergic affects and other health risks. Nevertheless, the FDA approved it and it is now on the tables of America while the EU and other European countries have denounced it. To see any corporation with such a far reaching influence over the agencies of the US government that are supposed to be there to protect the citizens is criminal and flies in the face of Democratic principles. This is information people need to know about.

Why am I not surprised? At least in Switzerland, all food products have to be labeled, and we do have many organic farms and therefore easy access to organic food. There have been instances here when whole wagons of grain were sent back to the suppliers in France and elsewhere because just traces of GMOs were found.

Yes, and once again, Europeans are ahead on the moral issues. I am firmly convinced now that it matters not who we vote into government in this country as they are powerless against corporations like Monsanto. And I doubt very much that either of the moneyed parties candidates will do anything to change this. People must look at labels when they buy food and anything with soy in it should be held suspect and boycotted. I ttruly believe the only way to stop this now is to hit them in their profit sheet.
-
Yep - we should encourage as many people as we possibly can to boycott soy and any product containing soy. It would be great if a movement could be created and launched - I can see T-shirts with anti-soy slogans on them. Cafepress is a great medium for this kind of thing. Nifty but simple designs with hard-hitting slogans... How about "Soy Kills" to begin with?

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism,
since it is the merger of state and corporate power."
- attributed to Benito Mussolini
(researcher Chip Berlet claims Mussolini never said this
but it is accurate whether the dictator said this or not)
Yes, the corporate take over of our government; the ability to decide how we are fed with no regard to the eventual outcome of untested foods? The elimination of strict guidelines to safeguard the public safety, and bending to the needs and wants of one corporate structure. We The People are left to become researchers even in the grocery store aisle or who knows what "frankinfood" we are being fed.
This is madness, and worse is this....the men and women who participate in this scheme are public servants; yet they have somehow lost there ability to discern truth. It seems they have been dazzled by all the promise of easymoney, the payoff of $$$$ to look the other way, the snicker in the back room with a measly payoff that and a glad hand, pat on the back, which comes with being in the club of cronyism, the good old boy network.
My mother told me that the congressman from her district was a small time grocery store owner before going to the US Congress, now he is a millionaire?
President Truman is famous for saying the "buck stops here", I think that that has been misconstrued. -
At number 10, The (alleged) Genetic Conspiracy between Monsanto and your esteemed U.S. Government. Much to the surprise or curiosity of the median current viewer, the Monsanto corporation's close involvement with the FDA has come under scrutiny now that it's discovered their genetically engineered products weren't tested properly.....sure "health wise", but who cares about that? They were clearly tested financially in our capitalist system and apparently passed with flying colors. The kind of flying colors that fly right over the normal red tape designed to protect the consumer. Then again, the FDA has also come under intense criticism for taking so long to approve other foods and medicines in our country that have been approved for use in equally developed countries.....so that just goes to show it's not the FDA that's screwed up. It's the people that run the FDA.

I spent a month studying this crap in one of my classes. It's unbelievable how haphazardly our government has regulated GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms). These plants do some hellllla nasty stuff:
There was a study a few years ago, which tested children who had one of three diets: completely organic, half organic/half commercial, and completely commercial. The urine of the children who ate commercial food (i.e. genetically modified), showed high levels of pesticide. Reason being: GMO's often require an extreme amount of pesticide to be used; some plants are even genetically modified to innately produce pesticides.
Also, GMO's tend to cross pollinate with native plant species, and create "super weeds," which are immune to pesticides, and can live/reproduce for upwards of 40years, wreaking havoc on biodiversity.
It's impossible to avoid GMO's, because everything seems to contain either soy or corn, both of which are big time Monsanto plants. -
As a soybean producer I have always tried producing non-GMO beans. I currently have 20,000# of Tofu quality non-GMO beans on hand but no one is willing to pay a premium for them. Ultimately this discussion comes down to consumer choices. If the consumer is willing to pay the added cost of production involved with non-GMO's we farmers will produce them. As a farmer I detest GMO's but as a businessman the reality is no one can continue in business producing at a loss. I continue to use non-GMO seed but I don't now much longer I can do so when the market rewards those who I am competing with.

JUSTAFARMER - have you contacted other organic farm orgs... like: the organic trade association @ www.ota.com or organicconsumers.org ? Perhaps they can help you with tips to bring your product to market... Please hold out, we need people like you!
-
Read John Robbin's book "The Food Revolution" if you want to know more about Monsanto. I think there is a whole chapter dedicated to the corporation and their practices.
-
justafarmer: considering you have no profile and this is the only post you have on Current, could you tell us where it is you farm? I would think farmers who have what you claim you have would know exactly where to go to sell it and would have more information about organic seeds. So any information you can also share with us on that would be appreciated. Thankyou.

JanforGore, Isn't this all desparaging? I wonder what Mr. Gores take on Monsanto domination is/was? Anyway, I've done a bit of research today, and have found several certified organic seed companies which I will provide in a short while... but, here is a site wherein you may enjoy some relief from all of this.... type in seeds in the search box after you arrive...

Monsanto's evil reach goes very far. Over the last ten years thousands of farmers have committed suicide in India by swallowing the very pesticide that put them into the debt and caused their desperate situation.
The even sicker thing is that Monsanto promoted their killer cotton seeds by showing promotional films with Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion.
These advertisements were shown in villages on 'video vans.' -
damnneargenius: Agreed. And this will drop off soon as all stories like this do I am sure. Proving once again that posting about 'current events' that don't really challenge the system are the best fare if you really are looking to get on TV as opposed to actually enlightening others about what we don't see on the MSM that actually effects our lives.

The Institute of Science in Society
It was founded by Mae-Wan Hoe and Peter Saunders to work for social responsibility and sustainable approaches in science.
This site is a great resource from the scientific community that provides information about genetically modified organisms.-
