Obama backers on the left are doing the wincing now

Greedily, they drained the kegs once full of sweet Obama Kool-Aid, drained them to the dregs and mopped up the remains with stale crusts. The inevitable happened—the pain that comes as everything finally becomes clear, in the rosy-fingered light of a terrible dawn.

Obama used them to crush the Clintons, but now the left is finally realizing it's been betrayed, on issue after issue, with Obama changing his positions in order to defeat a tired and disillusioned Republican Party in November.

They're at the dance now and he's the one with the keys and he's the only ride they've got. And they don't like it.

  • I read this article, I can say teh writer seems to have it just about right! I especially appreciate the end lines.

"I don't mean to pick on Mr. Herbert, an elegant writer. His is but one of many voices, stunned on the side of the road, wondering what happened. I felt the same Kool-Aid hangover, and the same whiplash, but from the opposite direction years ago, when I was run down in the middle of a paragraph by a clown car driven by Karl Rove.

The Bush White House became the champion of big government, of big spending, of Jack Abramoff and of perjury under oath. The clowns boiled out of the car and I watched them go, taking the Republican Party with them, dragging it out into the desert, where they'd dug a big hole and stuffed it with Kool-Aid-addled conservatives.

So I have some sympathy for those on the left when it comes to Obama. They feel jilted, and the story was of a growing sense of betrayal, until Rev. Jackson whispered his desire to remove Obama's valuables.

Then the left joined in with the right, and with the viewers of Fox News in the front row—representing those Reagan Democrat votes Obama will need in November—we all pounded Jackson, righteously, in Obama's name."

    Good post JohnA, thanks.

  • No, we don't.

In reality we just hope that he is nerfing his positions to appeal to the middle, followed by reverse shift into the politics we loved so much after elected.

I think he is doing his best to continue to be palatable to his left base, while reaching out to others. It's too bad, too. I REALLY loved all the stuff he said during the democratic caucusi, and I am sure that there are plenty of poeple out there who, despite their political position, liked what he said, too. He is making a huge mistake in my opinion and alienating all of his intelligent voting base.

It's awfully dissapointing. Thank God he is still a far more viable option than McCain could ever hope to be, and yes I can back that statement up with objective facts support the implementation of policies that reflect my position.

You are absolutely right, though, we are pissed off with Obama pulling off of his positions. I feel it is a form of political appeasement.

  • Wrong again John A. Do you ever feel bad about the garbage you post? He has to get elected to change things. He will be elected and he will right the wrongs the sicko psycho has inflicted on the country and the world. Obama Rocks!
  • So you are ggod witht he sexist jokes Bernie mac made at Obama's fundraiser last night? Or that Obama said to him that it wasn't okay and then laughed and said "I am just messing with you man"???? You might want to look at where he is really coming from. I am not saying that you should feel any particular way, just that he is doing a lot that seems to be screaming that he isn't who he said he is, he is supposed to be different, and in a moment when 70% of the population are claiming to be leaning more left than befoer he should be standing tall to his principles, instead he is showing the middle voters that he is not trustworthy!!!

  • No hangover here.

I'm disappointed about FISA. But I read Obama's response and didn't just accept the right wing spin. I'm old enough to know I won't agree with any candidate 100%. I've been saying it for months...Obama is not a perfect candidate, only the best candidate. There is a big difference.

  • Yes, I am. The damned country is sliding into the sewer and frankly I don't give a damned if someone makes a lame joke. I don't care about gay marriage, I don't care right this minute about abortion rights. I refuse to get into the small crap when there in a lame joke running for president on the Republican side.
  • Why is the automatic response to attack McCain, when we can still have Hillary, remember Hillary, voted against FISA, husband had the best American economy in our lifetimes, that Hillary. Obama doesn't have enough pledged delegates to get the nomination, and the super delegates aren't set until the convention. Dispite what Howard Dean, Donna Brazile, and the MSM might have you believe, it is not over.

  • EXACTLY JOHNA, GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hillary couldn't even manage her campaign finances. Besides her husband was the best Republican President we've had in years. Thanks, but NO.
  • John, how is it that Obama's willingness to accept a compromise on FISA (and only for the time being) is beyond the pale...yet you have completely forgiven Senator Clinton's vote FOR this war? The primary is over. Your team lost. Maybe it's time to get over it.

  • I think that Senator Obama knows exactly what he's doing and will win as a result.
Then? We can all watch elephants fly.

  • How right you are. Sad isn't it.

  • Is it only me that has noticed that after months of painting Senator Clinton as a Washington insider and professing himself as the agent of change, now that he is the "presumptive nominee" he has now moved to the right of her on all stances? No one but me finds that just a little bit hypocritical?
    JohnA
  • No, I find it inaccurate as usual. Why don't you break down all the "stances" he's moved to the right of her on.
    krag2112
  • Don't feed em.
  • Due to the price of gas, we will no longer stock all sizes of Troll Food.

From now on, trolls and adolescent cyberpests will have to flesh out their posts with a semblance of some form of sourcing other than quoting news articles or posting clips from that soft porn hit, "Rupert does America".

In addition, actual answers to questions from other posters will be required from all level one or two undergraduate internet bullies before response posts will be made available.

Carry on, MM. Obama will, however, have a difficult time raising money since there is a movement to "escrow" pledges and dole them out only if he is responding to true progressives. No REAL worries, however. There are so many neo-con "people" (code word for corporate operatives) "hedging their bets" in case they can't elect McCain, they are giving in every way possible. There is SO FREAKING MUCH "soft money" getting ready to absolutly LEAP into this race, that the candidates may actually offer free Ipod 3 G's so people can listen while they're on the potty getting rid of the campaign promises they ate that morning.

The trouble is we cannot be absolutely sure he will stick to his progressive roots because giving away a more liberal or progressive position would hamper his electability.

However, I am of the opinion that ANYTHING would be better than McCain with the possible exeption of Hillary.

McCain may not even prevail at the convention himself. I think Sean Insanity and Lush Rimbaugh are having some rare Hollywood Neo-Cons like Jerry Doyle, Bruce Willis, and all the Nashville Bubbas' loan them their make-up artists to make Tommy Franks a Reagan Mask and have him storm the convention with Oliver North in a last-minute Arms for Votes "surge" staffed by Wayne LaPierre and the NRA.

Gosh darn, It'll be just like watching re-runs of the A-Team TV show when Hannibal Hayes takes a drag on that cheap cigar and says, "I love it when a plan comes together."

Just think. A whole new cast of scoundrels to play "Face", "Murdoch", "Mr. T" and the rest just as the ratings were falling for Scooter,Dick, Karl and Dubya.

Next season's hit. "Well, I guess we're gonna have to defend Israel after they took out Iran's Nuclear Capability."

  • It is aimed at ALL level one and two undergraduate internet bullies.

More respect for accomplishments is shown for level three and four bullies as well as graduate bullies.

    They're not celebrated; just tolerated.

Anyone who thinks Hillary is not part of the same old same old has overdosed on donuts from the Rose Law Firm.

BTW, gimme another hundred grand's worth of them thar cattle futures,Mr. Hu.

  • We know what Hillary is and we need to run from her. We need to run from McCain. We just need to run from Obama more slowly than the other two.

SilenceNoMore, either you misunderstood what I said or you're talking to someone else. I would vote for Lyndon LaRouche and fly to Mars to be with his colony there before I would support Hillary or McCain.

If anyone here believes Politicians are basically honest (any of them), then they are in for a letdown. Some are just less dishonest than others, Obama is the least worrisome of the three mentioned here but ANYONE with the power of the presidency has the potential to do great harm.

George Bush proved that the U.S. is no longer exempt from putting tyrants into power.

  • Obama's shift represents a reality, as a president you can't have it only your way, you have to represent the people. This makes me more appreciative of him as he won't be a liberal Bush. He is a leader, plain and simple,

and the fact that he isn't a straussian neo-con like mccain helps a lot as well.

I know you think you see backlash, but in reality most Obama supporters are still well behind him. continue posting crap if you feel like it however.
