Jeffrey M. Smith, international bestselling author and expert on the health dangers of genetically modified (GM) foods, describes the Campaign for Healthy Eating in America, and how it will achieve the tipping point of consumer resistance to GM foods. This will drive them out of the U.S. food supply as was accomplished in Europe and is already being witnessed in the rejection of genetically modified bovine growth hormone, rBGH, in the U.S. People are invited to participate in the campaign by signing up at http://www.responsibletechnology.org.

It's time to take action against multinationals that think they will tell us how to and what to eat. It is time to demand GMOS be taken out of our food and proper disclosure be included on all labels. Monsanto knows GMOs are bad, otherwise they wouldn't be working so hard to keep labels from telling us if our food contains them. They need to feel the pressure on their profit sheet, and this is one way to do it: Education.

Some Americans have enough trouble maintaining a healthy diet. Let's keep the GMOS out. People need to be aware of this.

why doesn't everyone grow their own produce? It's about time people start planting victory gardens again.
Buy non-gmo seeds and grow your own!-

Risks of GM Foods.
Are they also one of the causes of the obesity and diabetes epidemics we are seeing in America?-

I'm kinda uncertain on this. On one hand, GM foods are great for the enviornment as they require less pesticides, water, and nutrients. On the other hand, there might be some dangers associated with GM foods, namely meats. Anyway, I'm a vegetarian, so all those genetic alterations wouldn't really phase me as they aren't relevant. However, i would like to get rid of THOSE alterations. When it comes to vegetables, I don't see the risk. As far as I can see, its beneficial as less resources are consumed. I don't know, maybe someone has a different opinion?

Monsanto's Roundup Herbicide has also been linked to birth defects per this link. Farmers spray it on their crops to kill weeds. The GM seeds are biologically made to resist the effects of the herbicide....however, the herbicide still lands on the plants, is blown in the wind, and lands in waterways. It is a danger to public health. We have enough food to feed the people of this world if the market wasn't being manipulated by the World Bank and other institutions. We have conventional seeds. There is really no need for GMOs. GM foods like "Clean coal" are simply profit making scams.
And their seeds are now "patented" so farmers are not allowed to replant them in successive years as has been the way of agriculture for centuries. Farmers are now required to buy new seeds every year and Monsanto is raking in billions and harrassing farmers who plant seeds in successive years...even those not doing so who simply had seeds blown onto their land from elsewhere. And with them cornering the global market on seeds, farmers have no where else to go.
People need to research what is happening with Monsanto buying up all the seed companies and looking to privitize water. This is a move to control globally our food and water sources with GM foods that were not tested properly for health effects. That is why people need to be aware of this and the options they and farmers have to grow seeds not controlled by multi nationals and foods non GMO.-

I think the shopping list that he is talking about is a great idea, that way one can grab a list and know immediately which foods to buy. I am all for that, average Americans are so busy, it take a lot of time to read each and every label, so this will benefit those already time stretched families and they will have the confidence that they are able to provide the very best nutritional food.
And this estimate of only* 5% *being enough to gain the attention of food suppliers and make them finally listen, to the around 85% of Americans who have said, they will not buy their product if it is GMO. That is awesome!!!
as usual, Thanks JanforGore ;) -
Thanks for the info Jan. Once again an important post that will most likely be passed up by current. signed up

NO.No no no. I'm sick of having my food choices be diminished because other people can't make the choice as to what to eat. If some people want to eat GM food let them eat GM food.
It's like when the fat thing first started up and we had to get rid of trans fat. I LIKED MY TRANS FAT. Then all the menus started to change. This is wrong let people eat what they want to eat. Lableing them im ok with, but banning is rediculous.-

"I don't think politics and government is the way to find a secure, stable solution to the problem of genetically engineered foods. I think that lies with consumers." ~ Jeffery Smith
Music to my ears. :-) Educate and let the consumers decide for themselves. And good point, SilenceNoMore: proper labeling of food products is very important. -
Thanks, JfG,... Often, you speak of what others know not,... and we thank you for your knowledge.
I can't agree with genetically modifying anything,... but if humans won't change their wanton ways,... this could be one of those "bad ideas" that might be necessary. -
PajamaDan:
You're welcome, and I thank the few who have been part of trying to get this out. However, I am beginning to think that even Current is not the place for it. Seems most who come here only want to read a cut and paste link and move on. So perhaps your last sentence is truer than even I can believe. I honestly thought more would be outraged by this. I guess we humans may just be destined to self destruct.-

Current is not the only avenue that we should use. Most people do not realize that their foods could be harmful or that privatization of seed and it's production put us at the mercy of these few corporations in so many ways. Monopoly's = price hikes leading to total dependency. We will become slaves to them. Can you imagine paying $10.00 or more for a single apple? There are so many frightening scenarios that could become our reality as a result of these company seed (and water) manipulations. We must move to protect ourselves and the future generations against these power and control money grabbing corporations. Spread the word! The FDA does not protect the consumer, obviously. It keeps the pharmacuetical companies happy though as we develop more and more diseases as a result of tainted/polluted air, water, land, and food... IT'S A VICIOUS CYCLE!
-
Oh, don't worry, it isn't the only avenue I'm using. ;-)

I love the arrogance of a guy that believes that by his version of educating people on GMO's they will automatically be against them. I have many friends that know all about what cigaretts do but they still smoke. I know all about liver disease but I still drink. I get Peta propaganda all the time about how "Meat is Murder" but I still love cheeseburgers. Just because you make a YouTube video and try to "educate" me in your "enlightened" hippie tones doesn't mean you're right. Fact is we live in world closing in on 7 Billion people and with the help of GMO's we have been able to keep up with global food demands. So before we start banning food in America, how about we figure out new and innovative ways to get Americans active again.
