...$37,496 US, which is about $2,500 less than we often hear talked about as the price point for the Chevy Volt...

I can't justify spending that much on a car that has no balls. That's the price of either the BMW 328Ci or the BMW 135i I want. I think I would take the BMW over that any day. They are all PZEV's anyway, and a few engine mods will increase the gas milage to more than that little thing will get....

I'm really stoked about the other recent announcement that the Smart Car will come in an electric version in 2010. I live in San Francisco where Smarts have been popping up and zipping around all over town. Traveling recently in London and Milan, they are simply everywhere. I'm totally in love with the little cars, but the chance to have this also be a zero emissions vehicle is extremely exciting indeed!
I bet they'll be faster, too, since electric motors have full torgue from the moment you step on the pedal. I just hope we get them stateside in 2010 and won't have to wait.-

Forget for a moment what else he did, but even Hitler recognized the need for a "peoples car", sketching the Volkswagen out on a napkin at lunch.
We don't need a $40,000 electric car, we need a $10,000 electric car that will sell like hot cakes. -
I'm not buying it, too expensive for what you get. Bring the EV1 back.
-
It would be good to get all of the gas vehicles off of the streets. I hope this will make our future cleaner and cheap. Gas prices are the pits!

Why are they so expensive? Is it because they're still prototypes? If the price goes down, they'll be a sensation. Right now, they're like the first computers or cell phones. Only the rich can do them.
-
I'm all for electric, but only if we have free and renewable places to recharge them.
It's totally counter-productive to plug in our electric cars to outlets that are being powered by the burning of fossil fuels. You lose all the efficiency and ultimately don't cut out the real emission threat.
It'd be nice if they were a bit cheaper too. -
Audi had plans to make an A1 plugin hybrid and the ability to have a covered car port for it that had solar panels on the roof, but haven't seen anything about it for months now. Anyone know whats going on with that?
-
I'm a huge fan of the Smart Car, infact I am working on getting one, but eviro-friendly cars aren't going to catch on in the U.S. if companies keep shelling out vehicles that are above 30k and look like Go Karts. America is, unfortunatley, a testosterone driven nation.....we are known for SUV's, Choppers, and Muscle Cars......the first company that can figure out how to come out with an electric car that looks like an old GTO is the company that will cash out in the states.

It's not the most attractive car in the world. But that's a small price to pay for being environmentally conscious. I bet driving one could still get you laid.
-
WHy do they continue to bring out the ugliest cars in the world. Im starting to think it's a deterrent of buying one. At least the Volt is cool looking and its made in America.

After years of sabotage, these things are finally taking off.

My gas guzzler, hell my hybrid is cheaper than that including a years worth of gas!
-To buy one of these things is not a smart thing to do with your money (unless your filthy rich)
It is also unwise to buy a house you can not afford,
I guess you frickin' mo mo's are going to ask the messiah to bail you out of buying an electric car too, huh?
God bless america (yes and the american volt)
God bless big oil
Clay did you see that nightline guy (can't think of his name right now) and his report on china's boom on the auto industry. That's where I first saw the volt. Yea, it does look nice.
Oh yea, by the way when you guys do buy one of these things give me a ride to work after eating bean and cheese tacos, and I knock your ass out like an ejector seat! -
Glory, glory hallelujah!
-
a little expensive, but there are already other plug in EVs out that are cheaper in the $13k range but are not attractive to me because they still only go 80 miles. Great as a second car, but i can't afford a second car yet. Until I can, i'll still be waiting for the EV that can go maybe 600 miles, because with recharge taking 6 hours this is not going to be a car that you take someplace and get going again real quick and besides that you would need to find a person/place ok with you plugging in

Ooo, it's a four-door vehicle! Nice. Most electric cars only have two doors, and those of us who have titanium spines and cannot bend very well don't appreciate that.
As with all new technology, the price will go down eventually. We will just have to be patient.-

why don't they make electric cars blend in with the rest of cars in society? they stick out like a sore thumb, and i want more of a variety.
-
I've always been in favor of cars using alternative fuel. But why on earth are these cars so darn ugly? Somebody better talk to the design team.

Two things:
1. The Volt looks totally kick-ass and this car looks like a bean
2. So what if they are electric, unless you have the car hooked up to a solar panel or some other sustainable power source you are still contributing to global emissions -
Where is the US/EU fund that could be given to whom creates the Best Battery in the World?
-
Local BC company producing their very own electric cars! Yes it IS possible!
-
If I cant even take it on a country back road (55mph) It's not worth my time.
