Stumbling towards disaster - again

Bush asked for - and received - $400,000,000 to conduct covert military operation against Iran.

A quote from the recent Sy Hersch article in the New Yorker

"Operations outside the knowledge and control of commanders have eroded “the coherence of military strategy,” one general says."

Further, it seems the only people in the government (or military) who favor an attack on Iran are Bush and Cheney:

Americans, help wake up your country! It is not the country we used to know anymore. We need new leadership now.

  • Why not try the unthinkable, elect someone that is neither a Democrat or Republican. Someone that might actually have the best interest of America and its people, rather than their political parties agenda at heart. This government and its two party system just sucks.

  • So you have access to inside information that shows that they are going to use these funds to start a war, if Iran drops a view warheads on Israel then is it ok to get involved? or do we have to wait till they have nuclear weapons and drop one on us and believe it or not your “Stumbling towards disaster – again” heading is meaningless to those of us that feel that Iraq was not a mistake and take the threat of a Nuclear Iran or Iran in general very seriously.

  • There will be no war with Iran everyone involved realizes it would be a disaster for all involved. America does not have any army and Israel got it's ass kicked by Lebanon, Iran is much greater in power than Lebanon and Israel is surrounded by Arab countries. America can't clean up after a hurricane, or take over Iraq let alone handle Afghanistan how the hell is it going attack Iran. The brainless leader of America has depleted all of his credibility as well as his armies on stealing oil and illegally occupying other countries. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

  • Obviously we have different points of view, I do believe that at times Americans have to force the point and we can not be afraid to make enemy's when it comes to the security of the United States, I agreed with the Iraq war when it started and I agree with it now, I would rather be fighting there then fighting here, I was not surprised about the whole WMD thing and I did not care that they did not find any, Suddam Hussein was an evil tyrant and we as a country needed to move the conflict to the enemy and it has worked.

    When the leader of a country as in Iran comes out and states that he will destroy Israel (or Israel will be destroyed by the Muslim boogy man) and he is trying to aquire nuclear weapons then I take it as a serious threat.

  • Threats are made in every school playground around the world everyday, would you want to attack there? American Intelligence (oxymoron?) led the world to believe WMD's existed in Iraq. If you were to ask the Iraqi people if they were better off now or under Saddam, I wonder what their answer would be. Dubya is a global tyrant, Saddam was localised to the gulf.

  • I'm sure their answer would be much better off now, did you read the link on Saddam Hussein or are you just spouting off something someone said. "Dubya is a global tyrant" can you clarify what that means or are you just once again parroting off something you heard somewhere, do you know what the word "Tyrant" means or are you just ignorant and the word sounded cool to use. If you lived under a tyrant they would come to your house for posting such crap, drag you into the street and shoot you in front of your neighbors as an example or maybe do as Saddam did many times and rape your Wife in front of you and kill your children then torture you and cut off a limb or two as an example.

  • Actually, I have talked to some Iraqis. Some when the war started, and again since Saddam was eliminated.

    The consensus is, It was a big mistake politically, for Iraq. They agree Saddam was a dictator and a bad guy, but the alternative was worse. Saddam not only allowed, but embraced (for the first time in their history) a very westernized culture in Iraq. Unlike its Arab neighbors. Saddam's Iraq was not bullied by a sub-culture of religious zealots. Each person I have talked to has said basically the same things. When the U.S. presence is gone, Iraq will be eventually (if not immediately) ruled by religious hardliners.

    They also believe strongly that any attempt at a legitimate democracy in Iraq is a pipe dream. Iraq, through its history has "never" been a democracy, it has always had an imperialistic ruler of one form or another. As such, the three religious factions (who will never agree on any aspect of communal life) would need one single entity to dictate the terms and conditions of any semblance of peaceful co-existence.

    That unfortunately is what has created every dictator since time in memoriam. We all hope not, but we all believe that history has a bad habit of repeating itself, just as water always seeks its own level.

  • George W. Bush’s sentence-by-sentence speaking skills are deteriorating. Apparently, this may be due to a mental illness called “presenile dementia.” Bush may or may not be secretly still drinking heavily. Bush lied, and thousands of people died. Bush suffers from narcissism and megalomania. Moreover, Bush has been arrested three times. Bush was arrested for disorderly conduct. Bush was arrested for stealing. Bush was also arrested for a serious crime—driving under the influence of alcohol. There are reasons to believe that Bush suffers from a learning disability. Bush’s learning disability would explain a lot of things. All in all, Bush is a severely mentally ill individual. Bush is not fit to be the president of the United States.

    Bush should be locked up.
