Well, this isn't exactly news...but even though it's about a year old, this is STILL GOING ON. Peaceful protest is a right guaranteed to us and it is essential to staying a free country. Police brutality or even trying to end PEACEFUL protests is destroying our free country. Watch and be sickened, there are many, many, many more examples.

  • As long as their protest are not putting people who are not part of their reason for protesting in complicated positions....such as doing so in someone's neighborhood and causing questions to the safety of certain people's homes, then I don't see how anyone doing something peacefully is going to cause harm.

I understand causing difficult for traffic or other things just as long as it's not safety of those not in the protest.

  • I agree J. These people were in a park. And even if it does obstruct traffic, I think we as a society should be valuing free speech far more than getting somewhere on time.
  • Ha...I almost made the mistake of stating as long as it doesn't cause problems, but that's what a protest is supposed to do. It's supposed to cause discomfort to some so that the protest is noticed, otherwise it didn't work.

America is the most lax on immigration than any other country in the world. That is a good thing and a problem all at the same time.

  • Better watch out they could be deemed to be enemy combatents by Bush, and jailed with no rights.
  • Wow thank you for this post. This really is fascism in action and that scares me.

  • didn't see any brutality. questions , did they have a perm ant to stage this protest?were these legal citizens protesting? What ere they protesting about?
Don't tell me there protesting there rights.B/c if they were protesting there rights first they need to be legal citizens to have anything more than human rights. If they were here illegally they should of been deported.
People who are not legal citizens should not be able to do anything in our country but take the first bus out the country. If they want to come back and do it the legal way then by all means welcome to the country. The first people that are hurt by the illegal aliens are the LEGAL aliens.

  • Jero, jero, jero...do you really see freedom of speech as a right that only Americans are given, and if you aren't a "member" of our cute little country club, you don't deserve to speak your mind? Is that really how you see the world?

Who cares if they had a permit or not--do you realize how much that limits our HUMAN RIGHT to free speech? Legality does not equal morality, just look at some of the laws we used to have...slavery used to be illegal, there were the Jim Crowe laws, laws keeping women from having rights, etc...

It's a little thing called CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE, something the greatest heroes of our time used to protest unjust laws--Martin Luther King, Jr., Ghandi, etc...

Take a second look at the world. Illegal does not equal immoral, and legal does not equal moral.
  • Monkey , the key is MLK was a legal citizen.Free speech is a privilige , a privilige only for legal citizens.I would not go to there country and demand my rights.Better yet monkey , go to mexico or el savador and protest in the streets for your rights. You be jailed or shot in the head faster than you can say "chimichanga"
Its time we grow some testicles in this country and close the borders. The economy will only get worse with illegal aliens.People who want to come here the right way i have no problem with. But do not come here break our laws then demand your rights.

  • Yet again you are missing the point. First of all most of the people there aren't illegal immigrants--so why attack the entire group? It's called free speech, it is a HUMAN right yet again. The point of the protest was to demand immigration reform, ironically you are pitting what they are fighting for against them.

But yet again, there was NO REASON to attack or silence the protesters. If they thought any of them were illegal immigrants they would not have brought the riot police, they would have done it alot differently so don't use that excuse to apologize for oppression, k?
  • they were protesting to get legal rights for " illegal citizens" .
Understand me , i don't blame the illegal aliens for wanting a better life.I blame the government for not controlling the borders, giving welfare , giving free healthcare to people that have not paid into the system.
Monkey , can i break into your house , eat all your food & turn your t.v. channel then ask you "hey , why aren't you treating my like the rest of your children"

  • Once again you are missing the point.

Whether or not you agree with what they were protesting and trying to say DOES NOT MATTER--the right to protest and the right to free speech is the most important foundation of our country and it is being torn down--and you are making up excuses for it.

Silencing protesters is NEVER okay, no matter what the subject matter.
  • silencing protestors is ok, if they dont play by the same rules that everybody else abides to.You can have all the free speech in the world , if and only if you are a legal citizen. Our country is not based on letting anybody to come into our country "w/o proper legal status "and cause civil disobiedence.Monkey , for example , in this site we have the right to freedom of speech , but they do have rules on this site and you will be censored if you overstep your boundaries.

  • What is WRONG with you saying that silencing free speech and protest is okay? You're ignoring my point, that it doesn't matter what they were protesting, they have a legal right to do it--they were not attacked because they were "illegal immigrants", if that was the case why did they just try to chase them off the street? They were attacked because they were speaking up for the rights of others, which in this country is apparently a bad thing.

PROTEST IS A RIGHT NOT A PRIVILEGE.

These people were not breaking any rules and even if they had, so did MLK Jr and Ghandi because that's called civil disobedience, you don't get it do you?
  • ok poison , fuck all the laws and lets just live in a lawless society.
This kind of place is going to suck for people who believe in gun control though
