Bush approves Israeli Iran attack

With US strike unlikely, Bush following Israel planningPresident Bush is closer to approving an Israeli military strike on Iran, according to a source for the Sunday Times.
As the Times reported Sunday, Bush has given an "amber light" to an Israeli plan to attack Iranian nuclear sites with long-range bombing capabilities.
"Amber means get on with your preparations, stand by for immediate attack and tell us when you're ready," the Pentagon official said.
But the Times notes that such an attack would not be officially supported by US forces and may not come at all.
But the Israelis have also been told that they can expect no help from American forces and will not be able to use US military bases in Iraq for logistical support.
Nor is it certain that Bush’s amber light would ever turn to green without irrefutable evidence of lethal Iranian hostility. Tehran’s test launches of medium-range ballistic missiles last week were seen in Washington as provocative and poorly judged, but both the Pentagon and the CIA concluded that they did not represent an immediate threat of attack against Israeli or US targets.
"It’s really all down to the Israelis," the official went on. "This administration will not attack Iran. This has already been decided. But the president is really preoccupied with the nuclear threat against Israel and I know he doesn’t believe that anything but force will deter Iran."
"If there is no solid plan," the official added, "the amber will never turn to green."
According to the source, the Bush administration has already made the determination that the United States will not attack Iran, though Bush is "preoccupied" with Iran's perceived nuclear threat against Israel and "doesn't believe that anything but force will deter Iran."
"If I were an Israeli I wouldn’t wait" for the next presidential election, the official continued.

The alternative is waiting for one of our cities in the US to be nuked. We need Israel to bomb Iran to stop any terrorist state from trying to support terrorism. This is both pre-emptive and demonstrative.
Given that if Obama was President and Israel did this, Obama probably would attack Israel in retaliation. - 1 year ago

This looks like an excuse to go to war. McCain will beneift from international upheaval. Foreign relations are his only preceived strong suite. It's unfortunate that Bush uses premptive war like advertising.

I'm afraid Israel will attack Iran. That way Bush can have a go at bombing the Hell out of Iran without being the aggressor. Where is the UN?

That seems to be the plan. That way he can say they attacked us. Iran has already detailed the 30+ hard targets they will hit if either country attacks them. Those targets belong to both Israel and the US. The fix is in!

This kind of arrogance in light of the massive failure in Iraq is unbelievable. I can't think of one single Bush administration policy that has been successful.
