Nintendo announces new products for 2008 at E3

And hardcore gamers respond with a resounding *yawn.*

Here are the highlights from Nintendo's E3 2008 press conference:

-Ubisoft's Shaun White Snowboarding to use Wii Balance Board

-Nintendo selling 200k Wiis a week, 700k a month

-Animal Crossing: City Folk coming to Wii in 2008

-Nintendo introduces the Wii Speak community microphone (Welcome to 2001 Nintendo)

-Wii Sports Resort coming to the Wii, with Motion Plus in tow

-English version of DS recipe application coming to America in November (Hooray?)

-Nintendo announces GTA: Chinatown Wars

-Nintendo announces Wii Music with 50 instruments

But c'mon Nintendo! I realize you're number one and don't really have to work hard for your money anymore like you did the last generation, but this is just plain lazy. Where are my actual GAMES?!

    EXACTLY! I don't care about ANYTHING they talked about this year. Where the eff is my Kid Icarus? Where is my updated version of Punch Out? Where are some new original I.P.'s?

    Nintendo, I think it's great your system prints money. But I also think you are doing part of your audience a severe disservice by ignoring them.

    Yeah, its great that the numbers of women buying the console are going through the roof, but have you ever stopped to think that the numbers are skewed that way because hardcore men gamers simply aren't buying what you're selling anymore?

    I've been a Nintendo fanboy my entire life. For pete's sake I even competed in the Nintendo World Championships in 1991. But for the first time ever, you really let me down Nintendo. I'm begging you as a loyal fan, please make it up to me at the Tokyo Game Show this year.

  • GTA: Chinatown Wars? Anyway, Nintendo lacks third party exclusive franchises. Aside from putting up a new Zelda, Metroid, Mario, or Pokemon (or Super Smash Bros.), their best hope is to exploit the kid friendly, "exercise", and "old people loving" (...) capabilities of the Wii.

  • I think it'll take some time for some real game developments, now that the new hardware and peripherals are successful.

    I'm sure we will see some innovative gameplay when they reintroduce the virtual boy (table and stand not necessary) and power glove for Wii. Imagine kid icarus with said items, a wiimote in each pocket, rumble pack jock, adult jolly jumper to simulate weightlessness, (aka Wii Human Crane) we might end up with something very new (only then I would like to see a new 'punch out', but it'll be after the money printer pays for itself and we move past this harsh reality of looking at a static screen for 'video'gaming.

    I have always been a strong advocate of the Nintendo pain pad that lets you feel whats really happening to your avatar :P

  • It's going to be next gen before developers figure out how to use the Wii's full potential. I've been a Nintendo fan all my life, and while I don't consider myself a "hardcore gamer" I still feel a little disappointed with Wii's meager offering of games. Oh well, that's why I'm letting my sis take it to school with her.

    left off three major titles:
    Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Lightsaber Duels!
    Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party
    Call of Duty: World at War (first person shooter using the wii zapper!)

  • Man that was a HORRIBLE keynote! Nothing that no one saw coming a mile away (Animal Crossing) and the rest is a bore (WiiMusic...so whats the point of this game again? oh yeah simulating real life but with bubble characters).

    Also watching "The Caminator" and Reggie try to act hip and cool "and bring it" was just painful. But not as painful as that horrible rendition of of the Mario theme on WiiMusic. I cant get that sound out of my head!!!

    The wii-motion plus add-on is rediculously stupid. They should have made the wiimotes precise before they put out the system. Seems like the dumb expansion pack for N64.

  • At least they're only releasing things people want. I think they are wise... flashing lights only appeal to the ones that stand in line on the first day to buy something. E3 should be renamed: Happy Flashing Lights Day for Happy Game Customers! Mr Sparkle!!
