The US Christian group that pressured Heinz to pull an UK commercial featuring two men kissing is now targeting McDonald's, accusing the fast-food chain of refusing "to remain neutral in the culture war".The American Family Association began a boycott campaign against McDonald's in response to the company's membership in the Washington-based National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). The AFA is promoting its boycott, including an online anti-McDonald's petition, to its more than 2.5 million members. "This boycott is not about hiring homosexuals. It is not about homosexuals eating at McDonald's," the AFA states on its BoycottMcDonalds.com website. "McDonald's has chosen … to give the full weight of their corporation to promoting the homosexual agenda, including homosexual marriage."The AFA urged its members to complain to Heinz last month about a Deli Mayo commercial that depicted two men kissing, although the advert was only shown in the UK. The commercial was pulled from the airwaves before the AFA campaign reached its peak. The group, which describes itself as supportive of "traditional family values", has previously mounted boycotts of Ford and Disney for engaging with the gay community. The AFA also maintains a news website that attracted notoriety this month for its policy of automatically replacing the word "gay" with "homosexual". Thus was Olympic sprinting hopeful Tyson Gay unwittingly renamed Tyson Homosexual, to the mocking delight of many liberal bloggers.McDonald's joined the NGLCC earlier this year and made a donation to the group. In addition, a senior executive joined the NGLCC board. The AFA also attributes its boycott to the company's sponsorship of the 2007 gay pride parade in San Francisco.Ford ceased its policy of advertising in gay media outlets after the AFA launched a boycott, but McDonald's has so far refused to end its involvement in the NGLCC or make concessions to the AFA."We treat our employees with respect and dignity, regardless of their ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other factors," McDonald's chief diversity officer Pat Harris wrote to AFA founder Donald Wildmon in May.

this is the first time i have felt good about McDonalds in a long time! :)
-
this is a militia with MAJOR funding from many right-wing christian groups, including politicians and other very wealthy people. they are waging a war against homosexuals civil rights, using fear and hate as bullets, and money as leverage.
they want to fight big companies that are vulnerable in these times of economic recession, to promote conformity. sounds like US war strategy, huh? create sanctions to weaken the enemy, and then force them to change or we'll further weaken their income.
i thought organized crime was illegal? -
i think that a lot of people who are finding out about are not going to eat there..
Speaking from a christian's point of view..
that comercial was wrong im glad they took it off the air..-

I think McDonalds should boycott the US Christian group.
-
I thought the Heinz ad was funny. I will go out of my way to support McDonalds now. Piss on the phony Christians. Polish up your God bumper stickers so I'll know that you are a Christian, because one would never know by your behavior.

If McDonald's took any legal action against the Christian group they would be sued for religious discrimination. Whereas the Christians can do as they please. Sad but true. It's only b/c Christianity is a mainstream, commercialized religion.
-
Jesus never boycotted anyone.
What? -
Christians are such drama queens! LOL
-
I don't agree with their particular reason for this boycott, but boycotting McDonald's is never a BAD thing. If they were smart they would not be eating there in the first place. Something tells me this will be a very hard battle of will for some of their members.

Uhm...yeah...this is...well...
baffling.
This boycott will work as well as the one with the gay people boycotting that hotel for paying money to not have the gay marriage approved.
Some people fail at making points with boycotts.
Why is Jesus crying? Because of things like this. -
err.. u spelled organization as "organisation" .....

I've never been a big fan of "organized" religion in the first place, But these people take the cake. The A.F.A. seems to be bound and determined to be the morals police for the whole country. Judge not lest ye be judged. Yeah, I was whacked over the head with it enough that a couple of them stuck. Practice a little more love and tolerance.

People still eat at McDonalds? News to me.
Of all the reasons to not eat at McDonalds, it's pathetic and disappointing that this is what really grinds their gears. -
Once again the "good christians " rear their ugly head. Why is it these are the people who cry foul anytime someone speaks out against the hypocricy, yet are content to deny human beings 'civil rights' . No wonder the right wing churches are now struggling to maintain followers. let's see , against the right of blacks to vote in the 60's, against womens rights bfore that. These are the people who called the social security number the mark of the beast only now back a national ID card to vote or even travel within the continental US. Sounds like they have finally been sold on the idea that repression builds power. Any organization that wishes to block civil rights should by no stretch of the imagination be TAX EXEMPT. Start taxing the assholes of the world, like most organizations and companies when it starts to cut into profits , they start to rethink their beliefs.

I'm more concerned about the American Family Association's financially influential ties to McCain's campaign than a hissy fit with the burger clowns.
They're part of that vast network of biggots we need to vote against in November. -
"This boycott is not about hiring homosexuals. It is not about homosexuals eating at McDonald's..."
They don't want gay people to eat?
