Sonny Perdue, governor of Georgia, has proposed that guns should be legal in public parts of Atlanta's international airport.

"If my wife wanted to carry a gun, if she was going from the parking lot, walking from one of those far parking lots to pick up a grandchild or something like that, I think that's a good idea, yes."

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International in the United States.

Check out this thread on the lawsuit filed against the airport.

that proposal is just asking for someone to bring a gun into the busiest international airport in the nation and actually use it, then what will happen? let's ask ourselves what the purpose of a gun is. . .to shoot things! why would anyone need to shoot things in an airport?

The fact is that most people aren't responsible with guns. Unless you have security check ins at the very front of the airport (i.e. check your car plus luggage before you can enter) there's no way to tell if someone is packing or not. It's incredibly stupid to announce that you can have them in the public places in the airport, but it's the same idea with any public place. Some idiot can be packing in shopping malls, grocery stores, gas stations, etc.

listen, it's perfectly reasonable to allow concealed carry. people with concealed carry permits are generally incredibly responsible. Anyone without a CC permit shouldn't be carrying in the first place. That would make them criminal, be sure to differentiate between the two. One is a law abiding citizen who's actions are supported by the 2nd amendment, the other is a criminal. again, don't confuse the two.

liberals are as bad about this as conservatives are about...well pretty much everything else

This is a good idea, because Atlanta is definitely not known for it's ghettos and illegal gun ownership.

Hey,... let's bring a gun into a place where EVERYONE IS ANGRY! Are you crazy? Not only are airports full of anger, they are also full of foreign travelers,... something some idiot Americans aren't too fond of. Again, all it takes is a mental disorder and a bad day to turn that self-defense gunner into a murderer.

Someone above said "people with concealed carry permits are generally incredibly responsible."
If you can say that,... we can say 'people with concealed carry permits are generally prejudiced and drunk.' That's the only kind I've met.

Guns are death. Bad idea, Sonny Perdue.

again, to be allowed to carry, you have to be given a license to concealed carry. what we should be arguing for is toughening CC laws, not banning CC from places. mentally deranged people, people with criminal records etc, wouldn't get permits and thus wouldn't be legally carrying. In other words, banning them wouldn't stop them because they're already breaking the law. We're arguing about 2 different things, try and differentiate.

"'people with concealed carry permits are generally prejudiced and drunk.' "

sorry, I come from NC and CC holders here are generally responsible individuals. I don't know how bad it gets going deeper south but I wouldn't attribute that to guns. For instance, in Vermont (one of the most awesome states in the Union) you don't even have to get a permit to CC but how often do you hear about gun violence there? Vermont is kinda like Australia or Canada, they're just awesome and don't harm anyone and have a pretty good track record for liberty and freedom.

Better to have a gun and not need it , than need one and not have one.

Can I hang around in front of the Georgia state capitol brandishing a rifle? I'll give Sonny a wink as he arrives to work.

We can say for sure the terrorists from 9/11 would of had holes in their towels.

Its better to have a gun in your hand than a cop on the phone , (thank you Mr.Larson)

I support this to! The first time a bunch of pissed off airport passengers begin to unload on one another it'll be fun to watch the backlash. It'll only take one person to pull the trigger and then everyone else will be firing in "self defence".......funny how society never seems to make logical decisions until a body count pushes them there. Now thats what I call progress.

It is a public place people...

Its not like they are allowing them on the airplanes themselves. They are just stating that you can carry a firearm anywhere in the airport that isn't a secure area. Sounds ok to me. Have they had any shootings yet? Yeah, didn't think so and if they do, there will be a concealed handgun permit holder there ready to stop the situation before it gets out of hand. You can put your money on that.

I wonder how things would have turned out if law abiding citizens on Flight 93 had been allowed to carry?

If criminals knew that the law abiding citizens they plan to hurt are armed, they might think twice before committing a crime.... If you were a criminal wouldn't you rather commit a crime in an area where you knew your gun would be the only one?

    Makes you think....
