There has been increased concern over NBA ball players throwing gang signs when scoring, or as menacing gestures to other players. So much so, that the NBA has taken to reviewing tapes where they believe this might occur. The NFL is looking into unwanted signage as well, especially after the shooting death of Darrent Williams, adding that any referees who notice unusual things on the field should report things.
But even the leagues admit, interpreting and discerning gang signs is a a best guesstimate.
Sports officials across the board have become increasingly aware of gang related symbols or colors on paraphenalia, and have pulled some products off the shelves. Some players say, throwing signs and having certain symbols and numbers on your jersey is a way of identifying where they are from; who they are, who they were, before they made it big.
It's an iffy area, a touchy subject when you combine commerce, family entertainment, identity, and reality.

You can take them out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of them?
They need to grow up and start being role s,
Big ups to Marbury for making those inexpensive accessible starburys!-

There is absolutely nothing wrong with throwing up your hood. These are not signs of any specific gang but of specific places where they grew up. There is no possibility of them upsetting any other group or individual with these signs because they are out of respect and celebration for their own community, not done out of spite.

Do you think it's a race thing? A predominantly white establishment not understanding it's players? now, having said that, i have no idea if the NBA's management is mostly white or not.
Perhaps it's ignorance? or is it some validity to it? how far does the NBA responsibility extend? does the NBA have to be responsible for the actions of their players to this extent? i guess i find it interesting because there is no way of knowing. and most of it is just testosterone filled gameman-ship. or maybe the NBA is hedging their bets. Maybe their lawyers are worried? -
Do millionaire athletes who are allowed to tackle their enemies then need to throw down a gang sign? Seems like overkill.
But then again, I can't really concentrate on this, because I'm just mesmerized by BushSex:

Gang life have become a part of the lives of some African Americans because to them their are like family.Their true families they might not know.So when they come out of the ghetto life they remember where they have come from by sometimes showing the gang sign.

Like it or not as a professional athlete you are a role model. They should behave as such. Gang membership is really important to a lot of young people's lives, but it is also unarguably detrimental in a lot of ways.
And of course its a little bit of a race thing, black culture makes rich white people nervous.-
