Celebration, FL, is a real town invented and conceptualized by Walt Disney. Meet some of the residents of this small world.

I love New Urbanism, but Celebration creeped me out.
I think it's the name, and the fact that I know that living in that kind of area is almost impossible for anyone not white and upper middle class retiree.
Really, who has the kind of money to own a house AND go on 61 Disney cruises?-

I didn't think Celebration sounded all too bad until the journalist showed us her Disney collection. I find something a little off about someone who could care less about Disney before living in Celebration, to suddenly go on 50+ Disney Cruises and starting her own Disney stuffed animal collection. All the while preaching about "reality."

The concept of having a planned community is not a new one. Places like Chattanooga, TN and Portland OR have been incredibly well planned and based on the city planning of Seattle, WA.
It is too soon to decide whether or not Celebration will have a negative effect on generations to come. It might end up like a Stepford town or the town in The Truman Show. I do know, however, the negative effects of living in large city like New York. New York is one top ten unhealthiest cities to live. Who is to say what is right?
The next generation who will be born in communities like Celebration and Legacy, TX (another planned community near Plano,TX) will determine if the cities will have any cultural meaning or worth. Even if it doesn't, it wouldn't be much different than other small towns across the country. -
i've driven through this place and it's CREEPY!

I live and go to school in celebration, and i have never met more materialistic and shallow people in my life. when i describe celebration to my friends the words creepy and Stepford wives are often used.
If you're not middle upper class its like you're shunned from the bubble... and yes it really is a bubble.
And just like any other city, celebration does have its own problems with drugs and violence its just swept under the carpet and not talked about because were a "disney community"
If you arent white, a disney fanatic, or upper class celebration is pretty much a living hell with stares from people letting you know that your not wanted there.
I cant wait to leave the bubble -
The host of this pod is awesome, he should work for Current.
That being said, Celebration is extremely creepy, it's a impressively over priced area as far as food, stores and entertainment. There are other places here in Florida copying that style like Lake Baldwin, it's convenient but detrimental to the people that live there.-

This particular planned city is the opposite of what sort of a society I would like to live in. I would like to get away from consumerism. I never want to just be a superfan of something so corporate like Disney.
