These haunting 19th century pictures document the emergence of photography: it's funny to think that cows were the same in 1857, Victor Hugo (pictured), now revered as a literary giant, could have been mistaken for any grumpy old man!
P.S. #8 is a picture entitled 'post mortem', and shows a dead child: quite peaceful, and nothing explicit, but if it's something that would distress you skip it (use the captions in the top left).

Cows were not the same in 1857...they didn't eat corn, nor were they given bovine growth hormones...

Yeah... the dead baby just brought my relaxed attitude to a grinding halt...but a good post none the less. I liked most of the photos.

Sad one, it looks like it could be sleeping. I guess it's a sign of the times as they were too though, harsh.
