Tibetan flags banned at Olympic equestrian event

Tibetan flags will be banned from all Olympic equestrian events in Hong Kong under rules aimed at heading off political propaganda and protests inside competition venues, organizers said Friday.

The crackdown guidelines apply to flags representing countries and regions without athletes in the events. Demonstrations, as well as any "propaganda" appearing on banners, clothing or other accessories, won't be allowed either.

Organizers said violators will be kicked out.

"I think most people who come to these events would hope nobody is allowed to spoil the fun and the purpose of the games," John Breen, security coordinator for the equestrian events, said at a news conference in Hong Kong.

The territory, which is hosting the equestrian event for the Beijing Olympics, has become a possible magnet for demonstrators as mainland China has tightened visa restrictions ahead of the games.

A former British colony now ruled by China, Hong Kong is supposed to enjoy Western-style civil liberties and grants visa-free access to citizens of many Western countries.

However, Hong Kong has acted to restrict demonstrators in some cases. In May, immigration officials turned back pro-Tibet activists who flew into Hong Kong before its leg of the Olympic torch relay.

Display this flag is a mayor offense to the chinese government, like almost anything for them is an offense.

I still do not understand why the Olympics are being held in this god forsaken totalitarian state.....whose very practices ( torture) and values( repression) are seriously in violation of free expression, international cooperation and the free spirit of the olympic tradition.

Those responsible for this should win a place in the all time losers hall of fame. China is presenting a lie to the whole world in this Olympic Games......they are too embarrased that they eat dogs, torture people, spit on every inch of concrete, and terrorize, repress and imprison people for their views and beliefs, and have shamelessly polluted their own cities beyond recognition.... to embarrased to show the real face of the Chinese Government's policies and negligence....so they spend billions to save face and show the world a lie.....while repressing performers and any possible source of truth as to the real face of Beijing.

LONG LIVE TIBET AND SHAME ON THE CHINESE FOR THE HUMAN AND CULTURAL GENOCIDE OF THE TIBETAN PEOPLE SINCE THE 1950's. TOO BAD THE UN AND OTHER NATIONS NEVER HAD THE B_LLS TO STEP IN AND STOP THE MURDER AND TORTURE OF MILLIONS OF TIBETANS.........MAYBE TIBET DID NOT HAVE OIL OR HALIBURTON WOULD SURELY HAVE RALLIED OUR TROOPS TO COME TO THE RESCUE.

THE DALAI LAMA SENT DIPLOMATIC PLEAS FOR HELP (DURING THE EARLY TIMES OF THE CHINESE INVASION) TO MOST ALL POWERFULL NATIONS AND NOT ONE RESPONDED

Im totally convinced that they were allowed to host the Olympics in an effort to push them to make the changes that will take them closer to a democracy, and also to put all the problems of the chinese government under the eye of the international community and make them correct them.

But somehow the chinese government went away with it and evaded the social responsibility that represent hosting this event.

Everybody underestimated the power of the chinese political propaganda and their ability to masquerade and hide the truth and let the people see and know only what they want.

Now we have the same rotten apple but covered in caramel.
