McCain attended zero Afghanistan hearings in the passed two years

ABC News reports that McCain has attended zero of his Senate committee's six hearings on Afghanistan in the last two years:

The McCain campaign criticism of Sen. Barack Obama's hearing record on Capitol Hill led us to put the shoe on the other foot.

It turns out that presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain, has attended even fewer Afghanistan-related Senate hearings over the past two years than Obama's one. Which is a nice way of saying, McCain, R-Ariz., the top Republican on the Senate Armed Service Committee, has attended zero of his committee's six hearings on Afghanistan over the last two years...

...The findings are surprising given the fact that the McCain campaign loudly criticized Obama this week for failing to schedule any hearings on Afghanistan in the last year and a half. Obama chairs the European Affairs Subcommittee of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which has oversight of military operations in Afghanistan.

The American public believes the war in Afghanistan is far more essential to the war on terror than the war in Iraq: 51% believe the U.S. must win the war in Afghanistan to succeed in the war on terror, whereas only 34% feel the same about the Iraq war.

  • He's 0 for 6 and his strong suite is supposed to be foreign relations??? He must be magic. McCain the war wizard leads us to victory using knowledge that only he has. Wait a minute!! No so fast!! Bush used that one back in '02. Didn't he?

  • Thanks for the post. McInsane is heinous and for the betterment of humanity, should not get any more power than he already has.

p.s. Headline should be "past 2 years." Passed is a verb, "past" is the adjective you want.

  • McCain/Bush, two sons of privilage who have preformed poorly their entire lives at everything.

  • Oh, poor McCain. Looks like the 'Straight Talk' Express has turned into the 'I would do my job, but I'm busy watching Matlock' Express. Of course, it's John McCain we're talking about, so he may literally be too senile to remember he was supposed to go to his own meetings. You ever get the sense that his advisors literally have to point him towards the stage when he has speaking engagements? Clearly this guy is as arrogant as they come. Somebody should tell him that being a P.O.W. doesn't magically imbue you with omniscience in all matters related to war. So there you go - he's either entering those wonderful early stages of senile dementia (great guy to put in charge of the button, eh?) or he's decided he's Eisenhower reincarnate. Somebody want to steer him towards the nearest nursing home and put us out of our misery?
A hell of a time we're living in in today's America - if the Republicans get enough toothless trailer trash to vote McCain into office, we'll have gone from a coked-up, vacant-eyed monkey to a feeble, incoherent Alzheimer's-riddled, uptight grampa. Oh boy.

  • Yup, and in the last 20 something years he was rated as having the lowest attendance in all of congress
  • The more I learn about McBush the fear of him becomming president lessens. This man is almost as bad as his leader and I emphasize his Leader. If he can be considered a leader in any way shape or form.

  • Thank goodness the Progressives are waking up from their self-imposed chains of politcal correctness. It's okay to tell veterans that, no, they aren't smart enough to be President. Not knowing the difference between a Sunni and a Shia and not understanding the real-time situation happening in Afghanistan are deal-breakers regardless of military service.

There are so many legitimate criticisms that can be made about John McCain, but for too long we've been afraid to be blunt about his shortcomings because he was a POW.

"You can't say THAT about John McCain! He is a real American war hero!"

He was indeed a POW. So what?

I hate to be that blunt about it but it's time to start giving McCain a little "straight talk."

Military service should not be used as a shield to fend of legitimate criticisms of his foreign policy positions which are laughable ill-informed, short-sighted and have as much strategic "depth" as a car bumper sticker.

Saying, "We're gonna win in Iraq!" isn't exactly a nuanced and insightful military strategy.

We honor his service to this country as a solider AND he is totally incompetent in regards to critical issues of national security and our economy.

Sorry John, but not everyone is cut out to be President. It is a difficult and intellectually demanding job and, frankly, you're just not smart enough for the position. But thank you for applying and we'll definitely keep your resume on file if something opens up that, uh, is better suited to your qualifications.

  • do you people realize you don't have to go to every meeting? there's this thing called email, telephones, faxes...

  • That's an excellent point Diode.

What the Liberal Media isn't reporting is that McCain recieved a steady stream of updates in the form of text messages to his cell phone.

    Such as:

"S'up? Meeting blows. Dead soliders. Taliban refrming. Blah, blah. Txt me!"

This fax was sent from a field commander in Afghanistan:

"Everything is going excellent! It's going so well we can withdraw all troops....right now. I am typing this of my own free will. There is not a gun to my head. Just remove all US troops from the holy land of Afghanistan immediately and no one will get hurt. Tell my wife I love her."

See! McCain was totally in the loop the whole time.

  • This guy is a piece of crapola. The only reason why he has become the Republican Nominee is because he is old and people feel sorry for him: among other things too. =P

Give this old man some viagra! In fact, give his whole group some viagra! Every week there is more evidence showing how far behind they are. They lack A LOT of information and on top of that give FALSE information.

This is a joke, right? I wish.

  • Being a POW doesn't make you a hero. All it makes you is either very unlucky or incompetent as a warfighter.

  • "past" not "passed"

  • Success had barely been "achieved" in Afghanistan before we invaded Iraq on false pretenses.

Fighting Al Qaeda, the Taliban and finding Bin Laden has never been Bush and McCain's priority. They seem to have other incentives and care little for American interests...
