People continue to amaze me.....such a wide range.....Loving kind ones that more than likely owe it to Loving kind parents and family members.....then those that are victims of nothing but being born to the wrong people....you can not choose so many things....color of your skin....financial status.....your parents....you are just extremely lucky if you have had great parents.....I belong to a small group called Golden Rulers....you may not agree but if more people received what they dished out.....well...there is a good chance it would cease.....not just an eye for an eye...a rape for a rape....and a bat for a bat........Golden Ruler....Will............

Domestic violence researchers all over the world, doing research across more than 3 decades now, have clearly demonstrated that we behave toward our children as our parents behaved toward us. Christians beget Christians, Muslims have Muslim children, etc. We value what we know in childhood. So, this father was probably reared by god-fearing, Christian, homophobic, violently abusive parents and is now passing the lesson on. I would bet that the baseball bat is not the first sign of abuse, but rather the culmination. Tragic what religion and violence and a lack of education can do to us.

I wonder if anyone around this guy's neighborhood has a baseball bat that could beat the 'religious freak whackjob psycho' out of the father.

Should he have to runaway? Hell no. A parent should love their child no matter what....unconditional. Even those of murdering type should still love them, doesn't mean they wouldn't turn them in. Just means they wouldn't hate on them like this.

It's hard for me to see this as just out of the blue thing, as if the father didn't show that he was capable of doing this prior to it happening. Not the son's fault at all, but there must have been some sort of warning.

I've known abusive persons they give warnings. They tell before they do things....this is horrible.

You know, I really feel like gay rights/treatment is going to be the new civil rights movement, if it isn't already right now. I can't believe that people are still so ignorant, and that a parent could do that to their own child. Gay people are hard working, loving, contributing, tax paying people in our society, yet they are treated as if they are common criminals that deserve to be put to death. Many people wonder why this generation is so intolerant of some modern religion, and this is why. Some modern religion is intolerant.

Though "beating the gayness" out of his son with a baseball bat is a generalization of what the man was trying to do (since I guess he was doing something more complex like an impromptu exorcism) I have to admit it is beyond idiotic. Methinks that the father either belongs in prison, or on a heavy dose of anti depressants.

I think we're missing the bigger picture here: none of this would have happened had we a) banned the teaching of evolution in school and b) required 1 hour of mandatory prayer to Jesus at the beginning of each school day.

But since the activist liberal courts have refused to take those common sense steps....the boy was turned gay and the father was forced to try and save his son using "aggressive spiritual techniques!" As a gay man who has been through what this young man went through, yes my father attempted to beat the homosexuality out of me when I was 15 years old, I know how he felt and why he could not run away. At that age I was not able to understand that the feeling I had for men was not something I could control but rather a trait in my DNA. I did not choose to be gay, but rather gay choose me! I was not turned gay but rather I was born gay! If I had not moved 3000 miles away from my family I too, would be another statistic of teen suicides! My compassion was tested when dear dad had a stroke on my Birthday, and I was called to come to see him. I did and showed this bully of man, how a real man reacts to those who persecute them. I did what Jesus would do, I forgave him for his transgression against me.

My father's life has been one of misery and pain since his strokes, and my life has been one filled with problems also, but not misery. I can live through all tribulations because I know what and who I am and no one, not even the two individuals who gave me life can take it away for being gay! GAY IS NOT CHOOSEN BUT RATHER A BASIC TRAIT JUST AS THE COLOR OF YOUR EYES OR HAIR! You can change the color these items with products but in the end all the natural traits you are born with you will die with, it is simpler to just accept what nature or God have made you and live a decent life, even gay people are decent lives.
