The Dalai Lama, in a lecture in Philadelphia yesterday, told a group of about 2,000,
Things are not black and white. Things are relative. Things are interdependent. When we look at a situation we have to consider all the factors.
Many world disasters, including war, including the Iraq war, are due to lack of this holistic nature (looking at all the factors). Like Saddam Hussein -- ending things for him. Reality is not that simple.
Of course, I have great respect for, in fact, I love President Bush, because he is very frank, very straightforward. His intentions are good, but some of his policy in spite of his sincere motivation and right goal, and some of his method becomes unrealistic because of lack of understanding about reality.
He went on to explain,
"You cannot look in one direction. In order to see reality, (you) have to see in three or four or seven dimensions" and that this applies in the economical field, political field and international relations."
The Philadelphia talk was sponsored by the Mongolian Kalmyk Buddhist order, which his holiness, the Dalai Lama, said was very close, teachings-wise, to Tibetan Buddhism and to the challenge of maintaining its culture, having left its homeland.
The main message the Dalai Lama presented was the idea of aiming for world peace through inner and outer disarmament. He explained that to reach a point where nations would outwardly disarm, people must first inwardly disarm, by becoming compassionate, not just with friends, but with all people, including those perceived as enemies.
About 2000 people attended the event at the Kimmel center. Upon finishing his talk, he was presented with a large birthday cake which was shared with all the attendees-- a Dalai Lama cake.

thank you, dalai lama, for stating the obvious. :)

But if you are one-dimensional, it's easier to make a load of money for you and your friends at the expense of America and almost everybody else in it.
-
well , i really don't think Bush ( or any leader of any modernized nation ) has the time to examine reality in 7 dimensions , and i get the impression no president ever has , or will , even if they wanted to . it's a shame , but such is reality .

It's important to understand also that Buddhists see suffering in the world as a result of a general lack of understanding of reality- it's not just Georgie Boy who's guilty of it (though probably more guilty than most!) The Buddhist principal of interdependence is an important lesson for the world- as Buddha said, "All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else."

The Dalai Lama is a special indisvidual...
BFAM_RVS -
DeliaThe Artist makes an excellent point. I'll just add one other important concept that Buddhism teaches us: Once we understand the concept of 'suffering' and that it permeates all humans on the planet, plus our deep understanding of 'attachment' as we move toward happiness and how it intricately relates to suffering, then change will occur.
His Holiness states a major truth: "Things are not black and white. Things are relative. Things are interdependent." Whether we like it or not, we all depend on each other at some level at some time. The planet is a symbiotic miniverse.-

for anyone interested in further study , what the DL is referring to comes from "Madhyamika " .
-
also no common sense, doesn't know the difference between right and wrong, hasn't any understanding of the concepts of duty and sacrifice, etc.

Praise to the Dalai Llama -
It's the dicotomy of Christian faith that creates the roadblock.
Personaly my heart goes out to Christians suffering in their stew of faith.
I like your Christ, but I don't like you Christians...Gandhi-

Dali Lama was a close friend of Green Party founder Petra Kelly, and has endorsed the Green Party candidate for President.

We knew that many years ago when they cheated their way into our lives. 2000, I was there, both 'vote' recounts in S. Florida. Certain 'families' hijacked the system and created their own reality; look how far they got and look how much future generations will pay. Lame tiz it not? That the TV, web perhaps, fooled people into distraction to real issues that now come up in the many forms of pain in the dollars, sanity and coexistence. Luckily I'm one that 'learned' from so many mistakes and close calls. Etc. etc.. Certain families are treasonous and off the tax-grid. Nah mean? Constitution defacers.

i respect his holiness. he is truly inspirational and i agree with him on the whole looking at things in different dimensions. its only then when we see things in different angles we can make real decisions. However in reference to our president he does what he has to do... what i mean is that he is a puppet. he gets informaion from others and makes his decisions based on given, but he never does the research for himself.... But then again what do i know... cant really point the finger...
-
You can't expect the President to do the RESEARCH himself, that would be a crazy allocation of time!
You can, however, expect him to seek out dissenting opinions and this is where the Bush administration fails horribly. The Bush administration has always decided what the policy decision should be, before initiating the gathering of "evidence" and blocking any contradictory information or points of view that could possibly hinder the progress of said policy.
Bush is not interested in making good decisions. He's interested in getting his way.-

Bushie has a lack of everthing from brains to understanding, that is for sure, it is encouraging to hear statements like this coming from great leaders and thinkers. I keep thinking Bushie will wake up some day soon and maybe hearing people of this stature make statements like this will help, but alas, I think Bushie is to dumb and as he says he does not read. What a boob he is.
-
I bet he wakes up every morning and says to his wife "Y'know, I had the strangest dream last night. I was the President of the United States and nomatter how ridiculous I sounded or how stupid my plans were, everyone went along with them anyway! Can you BELIEVE that??"
That's just their little in-joke before breakfast.-

His holiness better watch what he says about this regime if he doesnt want exile from this country too. I'm pretty sure Bush would go for that, sadly.

Hmm, I've just lost a great swathe of respect for this guy; he LOVES Bush? This guy shouldn't pander to powerful figures, his whole game is to transcend all that stuff.
-
Any person who believes in reincarnation has no authority on reality. He should stick to what he knows best, appeasing communist China.
-
Tee hee, "I like the guy, he's just not too bright." Understatement of the century, although he is being overly kind as far as I'm concerned. Seriously, at what point do "good intentions" finally get overshadowed by the damage that's really done?
-
Of course, what the Dalai Lama is saying is the same thing many realized back when Bush first uttered the words "war on terror"
If only we could elect the Dalai Lama in 2008.-

As long as massive numbers of people believe that war is inevitable and necessary, we will experience war...when enough people no longer believe in war as a human response, when war is dismissed and outlawed, war will end! His holiness is right...truth does not occur in a vacuum. Many factors have to be considered when assessing truth/reality, no? Usually the quick answers are quick and wrong, no?
I've noticed, the people who support war have never been to one. The people who accept the inevitability of war won't usually ever have to go! They tend to call themselves patriotic while relying on the patriotism of others...the ones who have to go to war!
All of you should go to an armed conflict before you condemn the suggestion of an alternative to the insanity of war. Then you will know for certain that there is always alternatives....!-

Since the little town in texass lost it's idiot, the little stupid, mean spirited donkey has laid waste to u.s. foreign policy.
It will take a long time to re-build the image of this nation, no? I don't think it will occur in one four year term... The only thing that will affect foreign relations will be major policy shifts...and the humanity, compassion and courage of the people in this country!
It is an awful combination to be stupid and mean, no?
See Barrack run. Go Barrack go!
And thank you, your holiness!!!!!-

many tibetan monks have , for some time , been thinking of armed resistance against the chinese . when the DL dies i wouldn't doubt that it might just happen , and all the pacifists in the west who see the DL as some kind of messenger will then be presented with the idea of standing against tibet , because monks are fighting for the integrity of their culture .

Dear Dalai Lama, Bush's reality is not one of peace or contentment, and In that sense he is totally out of touch. Unfortunately, Bush's evil reality to destroy the country has worked. The bottom 90% are going to suffer for it, while Bush's base, the top 10%, rich right-wing elite will gloat.

Your Holiness: You are my hero. The end.
-
NEVER GIVE UP.
No Matter what is going on, never give up.
Develop the heart.
Too much energy in your country is spent developing the mind
instead of the heart.
Be compassionate.
Not just to your friends, but to everyone.
Be compassionate.
Work for peace in your heart and in the world.
Work for peace and I say, never give up.
No matter what is going on around you
NEVER GIVE UP.
-His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama -
Well, Saddam Hussein is out of comission. People in Irak are not under his thumb anymore.
They have hope for a better future
Meanwhile Tibetans people are suffering under the chinese dictatorship and are being killed if they try to be free.
The Dalai Lama as a head of state is in exile. He lost his country and cannot protect his citizens
There are two sides here on who understand reality,
President Bush or the Dalai Lama
I would not want me and my family to be stocked in Tibet with no hope.
Of course as part of the buddhist reality, tibetans believe that they will be reincarnated and come back again in different form depending on their deeds in this life. -
Well, I can sum up Bush and all his parts 666...Go to anti-christ.com....All his acheivements,birthday,etc...add up to this number and thats no bull...He is a very evil person...Don't take my word for it.It is mindboggling.Even his full name a numerical values according to the Hebrew Numerical chart add up to 666..
