Where is the telephone? Forgetting to mention the telephone is forgetting an important communications invention that is still in use today. Also, the telephone allowed the development of the internet. Without telephone lines there would have been no internet.

Alot of history in one article and pictures plus sources.Good research and great article.

What about the voicebox? Leadving the telephone out is pretty stupid, but it might just be an extension of the telegraph I'm not an engineer!

You are right in the sense that "tele" encompasses both the telegraph and the telephone in terms of "real time" over great distances. But in my research I found that the invention of the telegraph was the springboard for the telecommunications companies like AT&T, which began in the telegraph business. I probably should have noted that in my article under the telegraph heading.
Thanks for your thoughtful question.-

I think my point still stands: the telephone changed our lives in a way the telegraph did not. I couldn't telegraph for help if I broke down on the road, or if I gt stuck down a well (with good reception)
