In disclosing the results of their poll, conducted July 10-13, ABC News and The Washington Post issued staggered releases, withholding from their first release on July 14 poll results favorable to Sen. Barack Obama, including the finding that 50 percent of registered voters would vote for Obama "[i]f the 2008 presidential election were being held today" versus 42 percent who favored Sen. John McCain.
A partial release of the results, "embargoed for release after 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008," was titled "McCain Stays Competitive on Iraq; It's About More than Withdrawal" and disclosed the results of only 10 questions relating to foreign policy.
Among the results, the release noted: 72 percent of respondents think McCain would be "a good commander-in-chief," compared with 48 percent for Obama; "50 percent of Americans prefer Obama's plan to withdraw most U.S. forces within 16 months of taking office," compared with 49 percent who side with McCain's position; 47 percent of respondents said they trust McCain more on Iraq, while 45 percent prefer Obama; and 51 percent of Americans "now say the U.S. campaign against the Taliban and al Qaeda there [in Afghanistan] has been unsuccessful." Following the July 14 release, ABCNews.com posted an analysis of only the foreign policy poll results under the headline "McCain Tops Obama in Commander-in-Chief Test; Stays Competitive on Iraq."
Similarly, Time magazine senior political analyst Mark Halperin linked to the ABCNews.com analysis using the headline: "Poll: McCain Wins More Confidence as Commander in Chief." In a July 15 article headlined "Poll Finds Voters Split on Candidates' Iraq-Pullout Positions," the Post reported only the poll results disclosed in the first release. The article did not mention Obama's 8-point lead over McCain among registered voters on who they would vote for "[i]f the 2008 presidential election were being held today."
On July 15, the day after the initial release, ABC News and the Post issued a second release disclosing the results of 18 questions "embargoed for release after 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008." Included in the release was the result that overall, Obama leads McCain by 8 percentage points among registered voters. Additionally, the release stated: "Obama continues to hold most of the advantages in the presidential race, in enthusiasm, levels of partisanship, personal qualities and trust on top domestic issues, notably No. 1, the economy; and he's improved in the past month among swing voter groups." The release noted that Obama leads McCain by 19 percentage points on the question of which candidate respondents "trust more to handle the economy."

I hope no one expects Obama to get fair shake in mainstream media in America as long as it is controlled by the likes of Murdrock and his cronies. The American press has been corrupted by the far right lunatic fringe and will do anything to stop Obama or any other liberal from gaining ground. Go to Current , or LINK TV or Global news, or FSTV or of Pacifica Network news to get true statements, the mainstream media in America cannot be trusted along with many of its politicians from the top down. I think most people on the current blog know this and that is why we come here to get our news, it is the people who are not ooking for the real story that are the problem or should be informed and this government should be responsible for putting out true news instead of biased lies. Thank you Bill Clinton for changing the FCC ownership rules. You gave Bushie the tool him and Gerbels needed to manipulate the propagnda machine. I hope the next leader will put the FCC back in order weather it be Obama or someone with enough wisdom to tell the American people the truth and not treat them like a collection of uninformed idiots with no brains. These blogs have changed the way information is dissiminated among people and has made it much harder to hide the truth from anyone who wants to know it. Things are changing in the media, and for the better I must say. Here' to blogging and truth.

i think the media and major news channels are trying to make the race for president seem closer than it really is (and i'm not being bias, i really have been noticing this). they give us random groups in which mccain polls much better to show that the race is tightening or close, when in actuality obama is winning in pretty much every poll when you look state-by-state (one example is the electoral map on zogby; right now obama has enough points to win already). but, it makes sense for them-if the media was honest and told us "obama's winning. still winning. and...still winning," people would get bored and their ratings might drop, and that's just the end of the world as news channels know it

"I think I've been very clear. Ah-ah-mumble-mumble, there's a presidential election in four years. I'm not running for president in four years."
these I quote from Obama -
look, thwayne is correct.
everyday mccain brings more proof that he is now too incompetent to be the president. he can't remember his own history (packers and steelers), he can't keep his campaign organized (internal firings), he's immoral (remarried while still technically married), he's supported invading iraq (illegal, stupid, a huge mistake), he has missed every environmental vote in 2007 and has a horrible track record anyways, he's ignored his responsibility on whatever panel involving afghanistan, he can't remember why he cast the votes he did when asked.
and in counterpoint you have obama, who is clearly completely in control and has a sound and reasonable plan. he's handled every piece of poo flung at him EXACTLY as a president should, he's got a much more realistic foreign policy (seriously, just admit it conservatives).
the only reason there is ANY question on this race is because the media is trying to keep people's attention and their ratings up. it's...dare I say it, stupid
