"Japan's latest trendy fashion comes from a place most high-end shoppers wouldn't go looking: a jailhouse.
The must-have apparel - cotton aprons, tote bags and pouches - is emblazoned with the character for "jail" inside a circle and are cut, sewn and assembled by inmates at Hakodate Juvenile Prison on the northern island of Hokkaido.
With orders flooding in on the association's Internet shopping site, all items are currently sold out. The popularity has been so great it is planning to register the logo - designed by a prison official - with the patent office
The Hakodate inmates don't get any bonus from the booming sales and any proceeds will be used to fund the labor program."

This may play in Japan but I don't think it is going to be a hit over here.

I agree. Unless all of the top designers get jailed for something big, (i.e. they really have a secret evil organization a la Zoolander) this won't kick off anywhere else. It seems that Asian jails are so productive... Like the Thriller inmates of the Philippines.
