Many heavy meat eaters believe they eat a lot of meat because of the taste. But according to groundbreaking new research in the Journal of Consumer Research, the reason that a beef burger tastes better than a veggie burger to some people has more to do with values than actual taste.

  • So if I perceive that meat tastes better, that doesn't mean it does taste better? I would disagree with this on philisophical grounds. I think therefore I am. If I think it tastes better, then it does taste better, to me, for whatever reason. It's like saying, sex doesn't feel good, you just think it feels good. Well yeah, that's the point. The economy isn't bad, you just think it's bad, it's all in your head. See what I mean, it's a goofy arguement. Perception is reality.

  • I agree with the article a lot of how we perceive things does make our reality what it is, but I still don't like veggie burgers!

  • I have been a vegitarian my entire life....i dont eat chicken, beef, fish, any direct animal really....i do eat cakes and other items that use eggs as ingredients, so you can label me whatever really....the point is, i have never had the taste of meat, and so when people ask me how i can do it, my answer is "it;s easy for me...i have never tasted meat, and so dont get cravings or desires to eat it..in addition, i love the foods i eat and really have no attitude which prompts me to feel like the things i am eating are not enough or good enough and so i need something else"....truth be told, i have always felt this way...and enjoy my lifestyle....i am healty, atheltic, and there is a value part of it to....i feel absolutely fantastic about living vegi as i love life and i see life in every animal, so being vegi is something i am very proud of....

of course, most of my friends that do eat meat (which is 99% of them) dont offend me and dont understand my lifestyle but they do respect my decision....for them, not having meat to eat would be a devious punishment....i like to remind them that I am proof that they would survive and be alright....

  • I agree with this article. I am a vegetarian who once ate meat and after a while I became repulsed by the smell of cooking flesh. When I think about a steak it makes me sick when it once made my mouth water. I have also read similar stories about acquired taste based on rebellion, such as hating tomatoes because your parents like them.
