The Ad: (Narrator:) Gas prices -- four dollars, five dollars, no end in sight, because some in Washington are still saying no to drilling in America. No to independence from foreign oil. Who can you thank for rising prices at the pump?
(Chant:) Obama, Obama.
(Narrator:) One man knows we must now drill more in America and rescue our family budgets. Don't hope for more energy, vote for it. McCain.
Analysis: John McCain may try in this ad to blame rising gas prices on Barack Obama, but after seven and a half years of the Bush administration, that's a stretch. McCain himself said last week that America's "dangerous dependence on foreign oil has been 30 years in the making"; Obama has been in Washington for four.
It's a bit audacious for McCain to charge that "some in Washington" still oppose offshore oil drilling, since that was his position, most notably in his 2000 presidential campaign, until he reversed himself last month and called for a lifting of the 27-year federal ban on such drilling. (McCain still opposes drilling in Alaskan wildlife refuges.) Nor is there any evidence that Obama opposes "independence from foreign oil," although his energy plan is very different. The Illinois senator has called McCain's plan for a temporary gas-tax holiday a gimmick.
Drilling off the coasts would increase U.S. oil production but have no short-term impact on gas prices. While some analysts disagree, an Energy Department report last year said production would not start until 2017 and have no "significant" effect on prices or supplies until 2030.
By picturing Obama next to a gas pump, using audio of his supporters chanting and invoking the Democrat's signature word "hope," McCain is trying to present himself as a hard-headed realist who would boost production. That argument may have some appeal at a time of public frustration with energy prices, but less so in such states as Florida and California, which would bear the environmental impact of renewed drilling.

The Republicans have been in power for seven years and John McCain has been in the Senate for 21 years. So he wants to run on his vast experience, but then blame Obama for this energy crisis. McCain must not think Americans are very smart. What did he do to prevent this crisis? What were his legislative proposals to achieve "independence from foreign oil"?
Almost every expert agrees that expanded drilling in the U.S. would have little or no impact on gas prices. Even McCain was forced to admit that the effect would be phycological. It's a shell game. Just like the gas tax holiday, more political gimmicks. -
You hit the nail on the head krag.. I for one am insulted and have lost any ounce of respect I had for McCain.

McCain's "Tax Holiday" plan was something special...
It's like a kids crayon drawing scribbled on spiral paper that you would have proudly posted on your refrigerator save for one problem. IT'S NOT YOUR KID, BUT RATHER A CANDIDATE FOR US PRESIDENT?!? -
Oh, and on a side note, McCain was recently asked if he knew the current price of gasoline:
His response: "To be honest I'm not sure. I've been getting rides from the secret service and haven't filled up my car in a while. I think it should be nearing $4/gallon. But, to be honest, I don't see how it's relevant."
Another example of McCain Not having a clue of the real issues facing Americans... -
It's not about "indepence from foreign oil" it's about "independence from OIL".... vote for dependence on a controlled substance: vote for McCain.

You have to be certifiable, or not paying attention, to blame all this on Bush. We need greater supply. This has been stymied by government for decades. The record oil/gas prices, along with every other ill besetting our country has happened since the Pelosi congressional administration. Perhaps we should look there for some blame.
As far as drilling not having an immediate impact on oil prices, remember when Bush rescinded the Presidential directive prohibiting drilling and urged Congress to do as well? The price of oil fell by 9$ a barrell. If we are going to adopt the concept of doing nothing due to no immediate impact well, why even save for retirement? Why cut the grass, it will just grow again. Why use toilet paper, you will just go again tomorrow. That kind of logic and mindset explains why nothing ever gets done on Captial HIll.
We seem to be chronically complaining about the dearth of problem solving on the Hill. Year after year candidates run on the mantra of change although Comrade Obama seems to be doing it better than others. If we are looking at the same problems then either the Congress and Senate are not paying attention, don't care or like things the way they are. We should remove them for any and all of the three. -
Within the time it takes to build an additional oil drilling infrastructure, put off-shore drilling rigs out at sea, rip up our natural resources and strip-mine enough coal to make coal-created oil... we could have built huge windmill farms, huge solar facilities, and switched most of our vehicles to multi-fuel hybrids.
The eco-route will cost half as much time, half as much money, and remove our dependence on carbon-based fuels by half. (These are generalizations but the articles I've read so far make me feel confident enough to say it here).
It seems like only fools would continue down a dead-end road. -
This political advertisement is just trying to create a a McCain favoring angle on the same issue to use our ignorance against us... but isn't that what all political ads are for in the first place? Propoganda too..... tools of the facha.
