It all depends! I do not think we are viral because we are not doing for profit therefore not marketing any tangible product service or information. I very much prefer to label my works as being a healing process against the ills of the system.
If we are to labeled, please label us as being part of a healing marketing process.
What do you think about it?

Ideas can be marketed just as well as anything else. Even the idea of a 'healing market' is still selling of one set of ideals over another ('the ills system").
Profit doesn't necessarily have to be monetary. I would definitely say that Obama has profited from current and other social networks.
There is no doubt that plenty of folks spend lots of time 'spreading the word' here, that's what it's for. Maybe there's a bit of the yuck factor working here because social networkers cringe at the thought that they might be just like them....but they are. As the wikipedia reference indicates, its human nature. -
Viral connotes unrestrained replication. Marketing connotes buying and selling.
You can be viral without selling something. You can TRY to do viral marketing, but it's mostly a big gamble as most viral campaigns fizzle on the launch pad. (I know that from experience)
Stopnoise: It is like your campaign to suppress toxic noise -- you HOPE that people will catch fire with the idea and pass it on. But mostly, you stand there with your flame trying to ignite wet rags. It may take a looong time to dry out those rags till they catch on fire. Even Al Gore had to take his show on the road for years before people started listening. -
profits should not necessarily be economical
may be ideological
or otherwise,
eg
St. Francis of Assisi was profit
the salvation of the soul
In this case, I think, that you try to do well
with good intentions on what one believes is good ...
.. but talk is certainly good
because freedom of dialogue
lies the possibility of finding a road that is good for all humanity and not just ...
Viral is what infected
the fluid passing of information
then in these cases:
infection concerns things of conscience
then just take them in the light of debate (dialogue)
in order to render ineffective
and the virus becomes healthy ...
-----
il profitto non necessariamente deve essere economico
può essere ideologico
o altro,
allora in questi casi:
l'infezione riguarda cose della coscienza
allora basta portarle alla luce della discussione
per poterla rendere inefficace
ed il virale diventa sano...

You know, I totally buy it -- words matter, and "viral" definitely has connotations. Maybe "organic," "natural," or "peer-to-peer" makes more sense.
Thanks for the thoughtful analysis! -
There has been some great enlightening comments here in regards to this subject. Jahbini, I am recording this stuff on 1/2 sound volume. I know it is not recommended but I am afraid to blow people ears from the beginning of the tape.

The problem is Stopnoise that you have to calibrate your audio to be at least 90% of 0 db in relation to the background music or your voice will not be clear. When the Flash video encoder gets done with converting the video, the sound can become altered to where the voice is compressed below what is meant to be a background sound.
You can always adjust your speaker/monitor volume down but what you upload is better to be bright and clear; especially when balancing audio tracks.
