A new research suggests that rock drummers must have the same stamina as Premiership footballers. In an hour of performing at a concert, a drummer can burn between 400 - 600 calories.
It is hoped that the results of this study, can be developed into programs for overweight children uninterested in sports.

It's not that much of a surprise, the Jungle Drummer is renowned for his ability to drum at ridiculous speeds (170bpm+) for hours even though he smokes and drinks like a trooper!
His drumming is so tight that Djs can mix off his drum beat as though it was another tune being played off vinyl. Seeing him drumming live is an experience to say the least, check out the video to catch a glimpse. -
Except most of them are out of their minds on booze and drugs... Hold on so are footballers!

Can anyone think of other cool jobs that might actually be good for you, as well as just plain fun? Writing and filmmaking both seem to be the opposite. More cake or cigarettes, anyone...?

For the 10+ years or so that I played drums regularly I had no reason to go to a gym - it's a serious workout. I only wish I'd worn ear plugs that whole time!

well i think it makes sense, i remeber my health coach telling me that football players only run for about 6~8 mins during the whole game so a drummer playing a concert for an hour can burn the same amount of calories but i really dont believe its a replacment for playing sports

i don't doubt it one bit. a friend of mine is a drummer in a metal band, so he plays with a double bass petal.. and i don't know how he can keep it up for an entire song.. or a set of songs at that!
