Thank you for interviewing families and reporting on the casulties of war, ie., soldier suicides. My hope is that each of these families will band together as a united front here in the United States of America and demand changes of the VA psychiatric department through our Department of Defense !!
I teach in a Virginia high school, and see the aggressive recruiting of students that is done at least 6 times per year, and I am proud to say that many students volunteer to serve their country. However I am shocked at the staggering number of our soldiers who have committed suicide once returning to their homeland !!! Where is the support for our soldiers after they return ?
Presently, my oldest and my youngest sons are in the Army National Guard ( Ct. and Va. units ), and I am so disappointed that there is not a mandatory Psych Intervention Program for all soldiers (returning from active duty, who begin to show signs of Post Tramatic Stress syndrome) to be automatically enrolled in, for one full year.
Recruit with a clean bill of health....and then Release with one too !!
Will a follow-up report of this be forthcoming ? What is our government doing besides gathering statistics of these soldiers suicides?
We ( US citizens ) who afford the comforts of freedom because of our own (soldiers), have a right to ask and get straight answers.
God bless our sons /daughters in the service.
Godspeed to our sons/daughters who gave and/or took their own lives too.
With heartfelt sadness,
Mrs. Shauna Garasimowicz
