Obama mobbed by happy GIs in Baghdad

Barack Obama met with a crowd of cheering troops and State Department workers in Baghdad Monday night.

"So I don't care whether you are a Sailor, a Soldier, an Airmen, or Marine. A National Guard, a Reservist, active duty, we just want to say thank you," Obama said.

"Back home, as I travel all across the country, every single day I meet your friends, your family members, your co-workers, and the main thing they want me to communicate is how proud they are of you," Obama continued. "They may disagree on politics. They may disagree on the issues. But the country is absolutely united in the excellence, the devotion, the dedication with which you have performed your duties, here.

  • Must have been under some orders. One of my sons has been in Baghdad for 7 months. He says he knows no one who is viting for Obama. Tha includes the Iraqis people. They consider Obama to be the American Saddam Hussein and want McCain to win. Guess this didn't make the news.

    I'm sorry, but I can't let this one pass. There is no internal logic to this belief. None. Ask yourself, what in Obama's past or character would in any way prompt the Iraqi's to hold this belief? Did he invade Iraq on false pretenses? Did he ignore inspectors on the ground who said there were no weapons of mass destruction, and then proceed to destroy the country? Wow. What a scary man this Obama is. Think, fellow citizens, think.

  • People like Paratus make we question whether they are ignorant, believe the rest of us to be ignorant or maybe a mixture of both. With the number of troops in Iraq, it is reasonable to state his son does not know everyone there regardless of the fact that he has been there for seven months. I liken that to some American asking me during a trip to Seattle if I know Chris Harden, who also from Perth... I mean honestly, I cannot know every Ozzie.

    Further, people have a tendency to have around other like minded individuals. Therefore it does not surprise me that his son does not know anyone voting for Obama the same way I do not know anyone who voted for that labour-clown K-Rudd.

    And the "American Saddam Hussein" comment... I believe Judy & lapedro made great points and use the quoted comment to further espouse Paratus' seemingly absolute ignorance.

    Side note: labour would be the US equivalent of the Democratic Party.

  • It's amazing to see how people will detract from a great trip. Obama seems to be having a ball and everyone that meets him seems to be enthusiastic and grateful he is there. There will be people on the fringes who can't see that, but then they have no life and taking the other side for them becomes their "life" - so they spew weird, far out views and make up stories to uphold their beliefs and confirm what they want their reality to look like. Psych 101.
