  • C'mon let's be for real..Beside the player's n coaches does anyone take this seriously? 1st that wasn't a brawl that was a slap fight. The hardest blow was rick mahorn's cheapshot(AGAIN!!) on Lisa Leslie I wish the media especially would start using the proper words when explaining ,talking, or describing something. No brawl slap fight and pushin n shovin that's it. Mildly work a look because girls fighting is funny.

  • The post said "violent" twice. That's funny. Did someone get pushed with both hands? Aww, want me to kiss it?

  • I hate when people try to be so sexist to explain the WNBA, Women Sports or just Women in particular. Everyone thinks that women get mad when they break their nail or too girly to fight...WTF, but the women I see on the daily basis are the provider in the household while the man went awol on the family, they push themselves to the limit all the time because the man is acting like a bitch. So until you know the soul of a woman, you too need to STFU. I am off subject but these comments boiled me over.... Lisa Lesley said the right thing.

  • Ok. I was going to stay away from this one, but I have to say it. I'm disappointed that the game hit a spiraled out of control and came to this. Although it is not as bad as the spectator involved bench clearing fight that triggered massive fines, suspensions, and changes in the NBA... I think it is a wake up call the the WNBA.

While some are pointing out that women's sports are not as brutal or "violent" as men's, and that this "nail breaking slap" fight is not a big deal. I think that there are plenty of cases where things have gotten way out of hand. I mean look at Kerrigan and Harding. I never thought I would see any professional athlete, man or woman, do something like that.

I sincerely hope that they take a look at the footage and punish the players and coaches that were involved. I would hate to see yet another sport tarnished by out of control athletes thinking they are above the rules of the game. Leslie said it best with the fact that this is not how role models should be seen.

  • Today's "would you rather":

    Would you rather...

Have your local WNBA team win a championship

    OR

find 5 bucks on the ground while walking down the sidewalk

  • @drpepper: That's an easy one. The $5. It's not even close.

  • Wow, some of you are grossly undereducated on this topic, yet feel entitled to spew hate towards the WNBA.

The WNBA started in 1996. I hardly think that is enough time to develop as strong of fan base as the NBA (started in 1946 as the BAA), especially considering the uphill battle against prevalent and numerous sexist stereotypes, like the ones in the comments to this post.

WNBA attendance as of 2007 was about half that of the NBA. I don't think that is irrelevant at all. I think that women's sports across the board is growing, and that some of you folks need to cover up your inferiority complexes a bit better the next time you post.

  • This is the only reason why the WNBA is garnering so much attention. On a normal basis not many people care, to be honest. Publicity stunt!?

  • ...and people say WNBA is not real basketball!

  • I like what lisa leslie said, she looks really sad and dissapointed when she says this is not the way they want to represent themselves or get attention, i believe her.
I hope this thing will get the WNBA more (positive) attention, but this incident dont get blown out of proportion by the media.

  • The WNBA communications director's name is Ron Howard, maybe the other Ron Howard had a hand in scripting this tussle for his next upcoming movie, "Juwanna Brawl."

  • the wnba still exists?
  • Maybe they were all with the Period?

  • If professional basketball players want to brawl, they should just make fighting part of the game, like hockey. : )

  • It didn't really seem violent, but that was a cheap shot on Candace Parker.

  • I can't believe the wnba is still bowling on tv.

  • I love that it was a Detroit team, again. The Pacers still bare the shame of the "Rumble in the Palace"
