Crews Inn, a gay bar in Dallas, instituted a policy on July 15 prohibiting drag queens and transgender women from admittance on Tuesday nights.

“Drag queens act like they are divas and think they can do no wrong,” said bar co-owner David Moore to the Dallas Voice. “They have stolen money straight off the bar, hassled costumers for drinks, and locked themselves in the bathroom with a bunch of guys. And with Tuesday being our busiest night, there is just no way for me to keep the drag queens under control then. I don’t want drag queens in here that are going to misbehave.”

“It’s kind of like I’m a positive role model in the community,” said local drag performer Ivana Tramp to the Voice. “It wasn’t like I was there hammered or begging people to buy me a drink. I felt like it was very embarrassing and degrading.”

Tramp and other performers are consulting attorneys about the legality of the ban and plan to take legal action.

“I’m not sure if it is legal or not, but if they are acting stupid, I have that right under TABC [Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission],” Moore told the Voice. “As a bar owner, we have the right to refuse service to anyone.”

Moore also believes it is legally permissible to bar drag queens because a costumer’s appearance must match his or her picture ID.

Tramp plans to picket Crews Inn on Tuesday night, July 22. The group is expecting 50 to 100 performers and fans to show up.

    • Hello everyone!!… First and foremost i would like to
thank everyone who has supported us thru this whole
ordeal….when i first went to the voice to discuss this
problem i had with Mr. Moore’s bartender asking us to
leave because we were “TG”, i never expected it to go
this far…i just wanted them to know that there still
and probably always will be discrimination in our own
community…i am not ashamed of who or what i am so i
was made to feel humiliation because of what i am and
by a gay man who no doubt himself has, i’m sure at one
time in his life, has been discriminated against for
being gay….i understand that some and not all “DRAG
QUEENS” Do act like divas but makes you wonder why and
who gives them that kind of power and or status…and
yes some steal, beg for drinks and lock themselves up
in bathrooms and do whatever with whomever but
everything said…so do ALOT of other people..GAY
included…i didn't’t ask for an apology from Mr.Moore
….i know that this is only going to buy him more time
for this whole thing to blow over and settles so he
can and will eventually have another one of his so
called “MOODS” as the bartender and acquaintance
Vickie put it…..to do it again in the
future..eventually giving him the right to do it to
any other group he does’nt like….his reputation
follows him as a shrewed and rude bar owner.he has no
right to do this…i have never caused any problems at
any club or bar and have never been banned or thrown
out from any establishment for being a ts…and yes i
know Crews Inn is trashy but i had a friend in town
from Canada and we were taking her out on a Tuesday
night out and to get a taste of the Dallas gay
scene…BTW she is a ts and yes we all had our I.D.s
with us and they matched what we look like all the
time..we were never asked for our i.d.’s we were
simply asked to leave because he didn't’t want drag
queens, trannys, and females there that night and when i
questioned it i was told to just leave and we did
without any problems…..i also want to thank C. W. a
former entertainer and title holder himself and you
know who you are… for yelling out to us that night…”go
home drag queens” people who live in glass houses
shouldn't throw rocks!!…i don’t want this thing to
divide any of us i want the same right to go and have
fun at any public place gay or straight, like everyone
else without being asked to leave because of what
someone else does or what i am….i am not responsible
for the whole ts community i am only responsible for
myself!!………….i wish to thank so many people for being
there when i thought i would be standing alone..……………………….CELESTE N.

BTW...THEY DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANY"ONE" ............... NOT A GROUP OR BECAUSE OF THERE GENDER OR RACE !!

    • Since some people don't get the humour of the picture above and are 'disgusted' with the admittedly not very flattering image, let me post something more 'agreeable' to mainstream tastes. I am sure no one would be disgusted with these ladies and at least the lesbian customers of the gay bar would certainly not mind having them around, so just be sure not to overgeneralise.

    • That picture is disgusting. The owner of the bar has the right to refuse service to anyone. There are plenty of bars with dress codes. I live in the KC area and there are several bars and clubs here that will not allow entrance to a person if they do not adhere to the dress code. Sorry boys and "boygirls". That's just the way it is.
