The wife of back-from-the-dead canoeist John Darwin has been jailed for six years and six months for fraudulently claiming £250,000.
Anne Darwin, 56, convinced insurance companies, a coroner and her sons her husband had died in a canoe accident.
She was convicted of six fraud charges and nine of money laundering at Teesside Crown Court.

So someone responsible for a selfish but relatively victimless crime (I say relatively as their children were distressed by the crime) is given 6 years. The only real victims here appear to have been insurance companies wanting to send a firm message to anyone considering a similar scheme.
But the husband of Amy Winehouse kicks a man to within inches of his life outside his place of work, so badly he needed metal plates in his face to fix it. Then has the man physically threatened and bribed with £200,000 (aprox $400,000) to drop the charges. He gets 27 months and is told he will be out of prison by this December.
Welcome to the lottery that is the pathetic British legal system. Weak sentences for the arrogant rich who commit violent acts yet aggressive sentencing for anyone threatening to steal money from a rich insurance company.-
